Racing Incident Report

SPACED began awkwardly, lost a considerable amount of ground, then was reluctant to stride out, became detached and trailed the field throughout. In the circumstances, the performance of SPACED was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, SPACED will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. TOY QUEST was slow to begin. Near the 1300 Metres, after being crossed by ALWAYS ZIETEN, SOLDIER ON got its head up and shifted out, causing DOUBLE PLEASURE to be steadied. ELFHELM, which was following, was steadied to avoid the heels of DOUBLE PLEASURE and in turn SIXTY SECONDS was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of ELFHELM. This caused inconvenience to PURPLE GOLD which was carried wider. In this incident, inconvenience was also caused to PILLOW KING and TOY QUEST. Passing the 800 Metres, PURPLE GOLD was steadied away from the heels of KAO AND MING which itself was steadied away from the heels of ELFHELM. At the 500 Metres, TOY QUEST was steadied and shifted to the outside of the heels of PILLOW KING. G Mossé (TOY QUEST) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting in when not clear of DOUBLE PLEASURE, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. TIRAMISU, which was following, was hampered in consequence. G Mossé was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday 5 November 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 29 October 2006. In addition, G Mossé was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. At the 250 Metres, PILLOW KING, which was hanging in, was bumped by CAPABILITY which at this time shifted to the outside of SOLDIER ON to continue going forward. Also near the 100 Metres, PILLOW KING was shifted out away from the heels of TIRAMISU. For the major part of the race, SIXTY SECONDS travelled wide and without cover and ELFHELM hung in. A Delpech (PURPLE GOLD) said the intention had been to ride the horse in a forward position as is usual. He said from the outside barrier he rode along in the early stages, however, it soon became apparent to him that PURPLE GOLD was not showing sufficient speed to cross runners to its inside, he therefore to avoid being caught wide allowed PURPLE GOLD to come back and travel further back than intended. He said in the Straight PURPLE GOLD failed to respond to his riding and was most disappointing. PURPLE GOLD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of PURPLE GOLD after the race did not show any significant findings. TOY QUEST and CAPABILITY were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported DOUBLE PLEASURE had sustained a small cut to the right hind cannon.
