Racing Incident Report
WATCHMAN blundered on jumping and lost ground. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, CHAMP DRAGON failed to muster speed. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, WATCHMAN was checked when awkwardly placed inside the heels of DRAGON STRIDE (K S Yu) which shifted in when not properly clear. In the circumstances, it was considered appropriate that K S Yu be severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. At the 1300 Metres, HAPPY ASH got its head up and shifted out. After the 800 Metres, SUPER FANTASY, which improved close to the heels of HAPPY ASH, got its head up when being steadied and shifted out into a three wide position. Shortly after straightening, HAPPY ASH, which was giving ground, became unbalanced when bumped by DESERT STRIKE which when improving on the outside of WONDERFUL BLESSING was itself hampered and carried wider as WONDERFUL BLESSING shifted abruptly after being steadied away from the heels of CHAMP DRAGON. No action was taken. PRIMIATA, which was following, was shifted in. At the 400 Metres, HAPPY ASH, which was commencing to give ground, was checked when crowded for room between SUPER FANTASY and CHAMP DRAGON (S Dye) which shifted out to avoid the heels of UNIVERSAL PIONEER which was giving ground quickly. In the circumstances, no action was taken, however, S Dye was advised to exercise care. In the Straight, WONDERFUL BLESSING hung out and proved difficult to ride. For the major part of the race, DRAGON STRIDE raced wide and without cover. W M Lai (WONDERFUL BLESSING) said it was anticipated CHAMP DRAGON and THE ONLY ONE which had drawn to his inside would go forward, therefore he should endeavour to obtain a position behind those runners which would be in front of midfield. He said WONDERFUL BLESSING was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards was crowded for room between SUPER FANTASY and THE ONLY ONE which shifted out and as a consequence travelled further back than intended. THE ONLY ONE and WONDERFUL BLESSING were sent for sampling.
