Racing Incident Report

SURVEY SURVEY was slow to begin and was then checked when crowded for room between SUCCESSIVE GAINS and AMPLE GAINS which was carried out by FIGURES. Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, AMPLE GAINS was steadied away from the heels of FIGURES. At the 1200 Metres, SIROCCO was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of FIGURES (M W Leung) which shifted in when not properly clear. M W Leung was advised to exercise more care. After the 1000 Metres, SURVEY SURVEY was left racing without cover. Making the Home Turn and in the Straight, GLOBAL WIN hung out. On straightening, WHATABOB was carried wider by STABLE MAIL which shifted to the outside of GLOBAL WIN to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, BEING FAMOUS travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Apprentice K T Yeung said in his opinion SIROCCO was not travelling well enough to shift from behind FIGURES after the 800 Metres when that horse commenced to give ground. He said because of FIGURES losing ground, SIROCCO lost ground when being taken back by that horse. The Stewards advised Apprentice Yeung in similar circumstances he would be expected to shift from behind a horse which was giving ground where circumstances permitted so as to avoid his mount losing unnecessary ground. The performance of FIGURES, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FIGURES will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FIGURES was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of FIGURES after the race did not show any significant findings. STABLE MAIL and AMPLE GAINS were sent for sampling.
