Racing Incident Report

DOUBLE FANTASY was slow to begin, then in the early stages raced wide and without cover. On jumping, UNIVERSAL PIONEER and ISLAND SUNRISE bumped. Shortly after the start, FLAMING SUN was steadied when awkwardly placed between DR CANDY and GOLDEN WIN which shifted in when barely clear. After the 1200 Metres, LUCKYME got its head up when being steadied to allow JOYFUL WORLD to cross to the lead. In the Straight, HURRICANE WAY hung in. Throughout the race, HAPPY MASTER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, B Prebble (DR CANDY) said the intention had been to have the horse in 5th or 6th position. He said DR CANDY did not begin well, stumbled and came into contact with FLAMING SUN. He said after this he allowed DR CANDY to become balanced by which time GOLDEN WIN shifted to a position in front of him. He said when this occurred he endeavoured to shift to the outside of GOLDEN WIN to ensure he was not in a position to be caught behind tiring horses in the Straight. He said as he did this FLAMING SUN shifted in, preventing him from being able to move to the outside of GOLDEN WIN, causing DR CANDY to be checked away from the heels of that horse. He said after this he was not able to improve his position and travelled further back than intended. He said in the Straight whilst DR CANDY did make ground, its run finished at about the 100 Metres. Mr D J Hall, trainer of DR CANDY, confirmed the riding instructions issued to B Prebble and said prior to the race he had expressed his concern to B Prebble that he should endeavour to ensure DR CANDY was not held up behind tiring horses. After viewing the video, Mr Hall said he accepted the reason for DR CANDY travelling further back than intended and overall he was satisfied with the riding of B Prebble. The Stewards advised B Prebble his ride on DR CANDY was not one of his better ones and he should where circumstances permit make every endeavour to follow the riding instructions issued to him. DR CANDY was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of DR CANDY after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKYME and GOLDEN WIN were sent for sampling.
