Racing Incident Report

WADADELIGHT began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall, then shortly afterwards was steadied when crowded for room between KING HESPERUS and VICTORY TREASURE which shifted in after being bumped by GALLANT KNIGHT. DARE TO WIN was a little slow to begin, then despite being ridden along failed to muster speed. From a wide barrier, WIN FOR ALL was taken across behind runners and after the 1600 Metres got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of SMACKO. Near the 1400 Metres, FORTUNE BOY, which was hanging out, was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of KING HESPERUS. After this, FORTUNE BOY continued to hang out and raced ungenerously. After entering the Back Straight, VICTORY TREASURE, which was wide and without cover, was allowed to stride forward. After the 600 Metres, CALIFORNIA HEART and WADADELIGHT were steadied when awkwardly placed behind KING HESPERUS. At the 300 Metres, DARE TO WIN was shifted out to find clear running, then after the 200 Metres was checked when disappointed for running between FORTUNE BOY and KING HESPERUS which got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly. For some distance after the 300 Metres, CALIFORNIA HEART had difficulty obtaining clear running. Prior to the 200 Metres, ROYAL FALCON was bumped on the hindquarters by WADADELIGHT which had been having difficulty obtaining clear running and at this time shifted to the outside of FORTUNE BOY. After the 200 Metres, ROYAL FALCON was steadied when crowded for room between WADADELIGHT which shifted out further and PACKING ANGEL which shifted in. No action was taken. In the Straight, SMART HORSE hung out. For the major part of the race, ROYAL FALCON travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the improved performance of PRESENT TREASURE, Mr C Fownes, trainer of the horse, said its only other run for him on the surface was over 1200 Metres when it performed poorly, however, PRESENT TREASURE had in the past trialed and worked satisfactorily on the All Weather Track. He said today from a wide barrier he issued A Starke instructions that if the horse was able to go forward, he should do so or alternatively he should take the horse back to avoid being held wide. He said in his opinion the improved performance of PRESENT TREASURE was because the horse was able to obtain the lead and dictate the tempo of the race. He did say PRESENT TREASURE was stopping noticeably over the concluding stages and had it been pressured in the run he did not believe it would be successful. Mr Fownes did say the win of PRESENT TREASURE was not anticipated by the stable. SMACKO, PRESENT TREASURE and PACKING ANGEL were sent for sampling.
