Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, CALIFORNIA BISHOP became fractious and endeavoured to break out underneath the front gates of its stall. CALIFORNIA BISHOP was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion the horse was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of CALIFORNIA BISHOP. Before being allowed to race again, CALIFORNIA BISHOP will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. Also after being boxed, PLASTIC POLYMER became fractious and reared. PLASTIC POLYMER was removed from its stall and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, PLASTIC POLYMER will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. LUCKY CHAMPION was slow to begin. CHAMPIONS GALLERY began awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and then was crowded for room between PLASTIC POLYMER and LIBERAL'S CHOICE. With the intention of being ridden quietly from the outside barrier, VITAL KING got its head up on jumping. Near the 200 Metres, VITAL KING, which was commencing to close the race off strongly, had difficulty obtaining clear running. For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, SHABU SHABU had difficulty obtaining clear running and near the 100 Metres was steadied when crowded for room between LHOJONG and MEDICO which when giving ground got its head on the side and shifted in momentarily. In the Straight, INFINITE DELIGHT hung in. For the major part of the race, AMPLE GAINS travelled wide and without cover. G Mossé (STAY YOUNG) explained he had to make some use of the horse to maintain its position throughout the run. He said prior to straightening he commenced to ride STAY YOUNG along, however, the horse failed to respond to his riding. He said in the early part of the Straight he slapped STAY YOUNG down the shoulder on several occasions with the whip, however, the horse failed to respond and he did not persevere in riding the horse out to the end of the race. STAY YOUNG was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of STAY YOUNG after the race did not show any significant findings. TOM'S SIX, CHAMPIONS GALLERY and DASH AHEAD were sent for sampling.
