Racing Incident Report

O Doleuze (LUMINOUS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that shortly after the start he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP, causing that horse to be carried in across the rightful running of COURAGEOUSHEART and PRIME DELIGHT, both of which were checked. O Doleuze was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 15 February 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday 7 February 2007. In addition, O Doleuze was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. In the early stages, CHATER SILK proved difficult to settle and near the 700 Metres was checked away from the heels of SPEEDING MOLLY. Near the 1100 Metres, WALKONTHEWILDSIDE was checked to avoid the heels of MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP which when being steadied away from the heels of GALACTIC TACTIC got its head up and shifted in abruptly. In the circumstances, no action was taken. After the 800 Metres, WHIPLASH was hampered and carried wider by JOY AND FUN which at this time shifted to the outside of LUMINOUS. On straightening, MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP, which made the turn awkwardly, was checked when awkwardly placed between JOY AND FUN and SPARKLING STAR which shifted out. WALKONTHEWILDSIDE, which was following, was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP. For some distance after straightening, SPEEDING MOLLY was held up and unable to improve. In the Straight, JOY AND FUN hung in. D Nikolic (MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP), which was racing over 1400 Metres for the first time today, said the horse travelled further forward than it had in its other race starts. He said MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP again raced greenly today and in the Straight failed to finish the race off. He said in his opinion MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP might be better suited ridden quietly and in addition he had recommended to the trainer following the race that he consider adding blinkers to the gear of MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP. Apprentice K L Chui (WALKONTHEWILDSIDE) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said WALKONTHEWILDSIDE travelled comfortably, in the early part of the Straight had some difficulty obtaining clear running, then was inclined to hang in. He said when in the clear WALKONTHEWILDSIDE did not quicken. WHIPLASH, DREAM HORSE and PRIME DELIGHT were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WHIPLASH, DREAM HORSE and PRIME DELIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. LUMINOUS and JOY AND FUN were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP had lost the right hind plate and SPEEDING MOLLY had sustained an abrasion over the right hind Achilles tendon.
