Racing Incident Report

KUNG FU was withdrawn on 23.5.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore right fore tendon) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter K-JACK (Apprentice K T Yeung). Before being allowed to race again, KUNG FU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CARELESS WHISPER was slow to begin. SURE HERO was a little slow to begin and shortly afterwards lost ground as a result of being checked when bumped heavily by LIFELINE PEGASUS which was carried in abruptly by K-JACK which shifted ground after being bumped by BULB TREASURE which began awkwardly. No action was taken. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, HAPPY ENERGY was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of LIFELINE PEGASUS. After the 800 Metres, HAPPY ENERGY was again steadied to avoid the heels of LIFELINE PEGASUS which after crossing to race outside the leader steadied the tempo. SIMPLY JOY, which travelled wide and without cover throughout the race, hung out making the Home Turn. Apprentice C W Wong (LEADER) explained from the outside barrier he was instructed to obtain a position with cover and allow the horse to travel where it was comfortable. He said after being bumped at the start by LUCKY DRAGON, he then shifted LEADER across behind runners to ensure it had cover. He said despite being in a rearward position, LEADER travelled comfortably in the run. He said on straightening he shifted to the outside to ensure LEADER was properly balanced, then commenced to ride the horse out initially hands and heels and at the 300 Metres pulled the whip. He said LEADER responded strongly. When questioned regarding weighing in 0.6 lb under his declared weight, Apprentice K L Chui (SUPER CEE JAY), 4th placegetter, was unable to offer any explanation. He said all the equipment with which he had weighed out had been carried by SUPER CEE JAY during the race. In accordance with Rule 113(3), the Clerk of the Scales allowed Apprentice Chui 1 lb, therefore weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Apprentice Chui was told at all times to ensure where possible horses carry the required weight. O'REILLY RALLY and LIFELINE PEGASUS were sent for sampling.
