Racing Incident Report
FRIENDS FOREVER was withdrawn on 7.6.07 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (swollen both fore fetlocks) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ACCELERATION (M W Leung). Prior to the running of Race 4, DOUBLE FANTASY was withdrawn by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever). Before being allowed to race again, FRIENDS FOREVER and DOUBLE FANTASY will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ACCELERATION was slow to begin. DANEPRINT began awkwardly and lost ground. From a wide barrier, COP HILL LAD was taken across behind runners in the early stages. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, WITHALLMYHEART got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MOSHI MOSHI. For some distance after the 700 Metres, ACCELERATION was awkwardly placed inside the heels of DANEPRINT. Over the concluding stages, FAST WINNER and RAINBOW EXPRESS brushed due to RAINBOW EXPRESS shifting out slightly. Throughout the race, RAINBOW EXPRESS travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, Apprentice K T Yeung (NOBLE ZOOM) said the intention had been to ride the horse on the pace in either 2nd or 3rd position. He said NOBLE ZOOM began well, WITHALLMYHEART shifted to race on his outside and appeared to be travelling keenly. He said he did not ride along to maintain a position inside WITHALLMYHEART, but instead elected to come back and follow that horse. He said when WITHALLMYHEART allowed MOSHI MOSHI to cross approaching the turn at the 800 Metres, it resulted in NOBLE ZOOM travelling further back than intended. He said from shortly after the 400 Metres until near the 200 Metres, he had difficulty obtaining clear running. He said when being ridden out after this, NOBLE ZOOM finished the race off only fairly. Mr C Fownes, trainer of NOBLE ZOOM, confirmed the riding instructions issued to Apprentice Yeung. He said from the inside barrier he had anticipated NOBLE ZOOM would be no worse than following the leader and did express some concern that Apprentice Yeung had not made an effort in the early stages to maintain his position to the inside of WITHALLMYHEART. Apprentice Yeung was severely reprimanded and told in the opinion of the Stewards his ride on NOBLE ZOOM was not one of his better ones in that he erred by failing to maintain a position to the inside of WITHALLMYHEART in the early stages of the race. MOSHI MOSHI and WITHALLMYHEART were sent for sampling.
