Racing Incident Report

SOLAR bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. KING ACRYLIC was slow to begin and then lost further ground when bumped by SUDDEN SPLENDOR which was carried wider by MILITARY OPTION which began awkwardly and shifted out. ABLE STANDARD made the Home Turn awkwardly and shifted wider, then in the early part of Straight hung in. At the 300 Metres, MOSHI MOSHI was struck over the nose by the whip of Apprentice C W Wong (ABLE STANDARD). After the 300 Metres, MILITARY OPTION was steadied to avoid the heels of WILD ACE which was giving ground. At the 200 Metres, MILITARY OPTION was steadied when crowded for room between LUCKY DANSKE and WILD ACE which was continuing to give ground. After the 200 Metres, WILD ACE, which was giving ground, was steadied to avoid the heels of KAISER'S PRIZE (W M Lai) which shifted out when barely clear. Shortly after this, MILITARY OPTION became unbalanced when being steadied to avoid the heels of KAISER'S PRIZE which shifted further when not properly clear. W M Lai was severely reprimanded and told to exercise greater care. Y T Cheng (LUCKY DANSKE) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a position with cover if possible. He said it was felt that leading at its most recent start LUCKY DANSKE had weakened on its run over the concluding stages. He said it was thought today's race would be run at a strong tempo, therefore, it would be advantageous to have the horse ridden with cover if possible. He added after beginning well he elected to obtain a position with cover, however, was unable to do so when the horse proved difficult to settle and as a consequence travelled wide throughout. Mr C W Chang, trainer of LUCKY DANSKE, confirmed the instructions and the reasons for intending to have the horse ridden in this manner. When questioned regarding the improved performance of KAISER'S PRIZE, Mr C Fownes, trainer of the horse, explained through consistent running the fitness of KAISER'S PRIZE has improved. He said KAISER'S PRIZE has been a difficult horse to manage on the training tracks and generally works in the company of a lead horse. He said from the inside barrier today he was hoping KAISER'S PRIZE would put in an improved performance, however, for the horse to win was somewhat of a surprise. He said the rolled-up money which went onto the following race after KAISER'S PRIZE was successful was not stable inspired. D Whyte (WILD ACE) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said WILD ACE raced as though it was tired and commenced to give ground shortly after straightening. KING ACRYLIC, WILD ACE and DIAGHILEV were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of KING ACRYLIC, WILD ACE and DIAGHILEV after the race did not show any significant findings. KAISER'S PRIZE and MOSHI MOSHI were sent for sampling.
