Racing Incident Report

Prior to leaving the holding stalls, SOHNA had its right hind plate refitted. SOHNA was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. LIMONCELLO was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, SOHNA was taken across behind runners, then after the 1600 Metres was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of MR FLOODLIGHT. After the 1200 Metres, SOHNA was checked away from the heels of KING OF SHAVER. After entering the Back Straight, CRYSTAL was checked when crowded for room inside SHINING DRAGON which for some distance had been hanging out and initially shifted away from the rail, then shifted back in when not clear of CRYSTAL. Some inconvenience was caused to LIGHTNING SPEED which was following. In the circumstances, no action was taken. Also shortly after entering the Back Straight, SOHNA was checked away from the heels of KING OF SHAVER which itself was steadied away from the heels of PRIMIATA. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, CHAMPION LAD became unbalanced when crowded for room inside PRIMIATA which at this time got its head on the side and shifted in. At the 400 Metres, EMBRACES was steadied away from the heels of SOHNA which shifted out.  In the Straight, KING OF SHAVER hung in and on straightening bumped with CRYSTAL. Approaching the 100 Metres, O Doleuze (SOHNA)dropped his whip. For the majority of the Home Straight, CRYSTAL raced tight inside KING OF SHAVER which hung in badly. Near the 100 Metres, CRYSTAL was hampered and KING OF SHAVER, which was continuing to hang in, checked when crowded for room inside SOHNA which was also hanging in and shifted ground. In the circumstances, O Doleuze was severely reprimanded and told he would be expected to make a greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting ground. Throughout the race, DIAGHILEV travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, M Nunes (CHAMPION LAD) said he was aware approaching the 600 Metres PRIMIATA had commenced to improve around his outside. He said CHAMPION LAD was racing with its head on the side and was inclined to lay out at this time. He said he did consider going forward with PRIMIATA, however, the rider of that horse seemed intent on pressing forward to lead and because of the manner in which CHAMPION LAD was travelling, he felt to have ridden forward at that stage with PRIMIATA would not have been to his mount’s advantage. He said therefore he allowed PRIMIATA to cross him after the 600 Metres, however, that horse was not able to clear the leader and cross to the fence. He said shortly after this LIGHTNING SPEED also improved around his outside and as a consequence passing the 400 Metres he was held in a pocket behind PRIMIATA. M Nunes was told his explanation would be reported, however, at all times he should be aware of runners improving their position. EMBRACES was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of EMBRACES after the race did not show any significant findings. LIGHTNING SPEED and CHAMPION LAD were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported MR FLOODLIGHT had lost its left hind plate.
