Racing Incident Report

In the early part of the Straight, PRIME DELIGHT hung out. At the 350 Metres, MEDICO improved into a narrow run between BODACIOUS and NASA PEARL. Y T Cheng (LOCAL POWER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the winning post he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of ALL CHANCES, causing that horse to be crowded for room and lose its rightful running. Y T Cheng was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Wednesday 2 January 2008 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday 23 December 2007. In addition, Y T Cheng was fined $35,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Prior to the winning post, BEST POWER was checked when disappointed for running between NASA PEARL and BODACIOUS which shifted out slightly. No action was taken. Mr P O’Sullivan, trainer of NASA PEARL, said because of the anticipated slow tempo of the race and the fact that NASA PEARL was only carrying a light weight, he instructed Apprentice K T Yeung, the horse’s rider, to ride the horse more prominently than it has been recently. A Delpech (BAJAN BELL) said he was instructed to ride the horse quietly today in an endeavour to have it settled. He said at its most recent start on the All Weather surface, BAJAN BELL was ridden in a forward position and did not relax. He said as a consequence BAJAN BELL failed to finish the race off. He said today he came out of the barriers quietly on BAJAN BELL, allowed it to come back to race in a rearward position, however, BAJAN BELL again over-raced badly throughout the run and would not settle. He said as a consequence of this BAJAN BELL again failed to finish the race off today. MEDICO and LOCAL POWER were sent for sampling.
