Racing Incident Report

PILLOW KING began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped REWARDING STAR. SUPER POWER was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, SPARKLE was taken across behind runners. M W Leung (MUTUAL GAIN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the winning post on the first occasion he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of TABBRIS, resulting in that horse being taken across the rightful running of REWARDING STAR which was checked. SIR OCTAVIUS, which was following, was hampered in consequence. M W Leung was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 31 January 2008 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 20 January 2008. Passing the 1300 Metres, SPARKLE was steadied when crowded for room inside MEGA BULLET (D Beadman) which shifted in. D Beadman was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure he leaves sufficient racing room for his fellow riders in future. Near the 900 Metres, SUPER POWER was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of DASHING FLAIR which shifted in slightly. Throughout the race, PACIFIC ALLIANCE travelled wide and without cover and approaching the 800 Metres was allowed to stride forward. Making the Home Turn, REWARDING STAR was checked away from the heels of PILLOW KING. Near the 250 Metres, SIR OCTAVIUS was briefly hampered when crowded for room inside MEGA BULLET which shifted in slightly. For some distance approaching the 200 Metres, DASHING FLAIR was held up for clear running behind PACIFIC ALLIANCE which was weakening. Also approaching the 200 Metres, REWARDING STAR was steadied when crowded for room between MUTUAL GAIN which shifted in slightly and TABBRIS which shifted out when weakening. For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, TELECOM TYCOON had some difficulty obtaining clear running. Near the 50 Metres, REWARDING STAR was shifted to the inside of FRAMES DEPOT. Then over the concluding stages, REWARDING STAR was hampered when crowded for room between SUPER POWER and FRAMES DEPOT which shifted in. Because of this, REWARDING STAR was not ridden right out to the end of the race as it normally would be. PILLOW KING, MEGA BULLET and SPARKLE were sent for sampling.
