Racing Incident Report

GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY was slow into stride. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, GOLDEN WIN failed to muster speed. After the 800 Metres, GOLDEN WIN was bumped by CLEMENT ELITE which got its head up and shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of SUPER FIGHTER. For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 400 Metres, SUPER FIGHTER (H W Lai) was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TREASURE COLT while racing tight inside BRILLIANT ONE. H W Lai was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Throughout the race, KINGSTON WINNER travelled wide and without cover. Following the race, B Prebble (GOLDEN WIN), which performed poorly, reported his mount did not handle tonight’s track conditions. When questioned, P H Lo (SILLY BOY) said he had been instructed from an awkward barrier to ride the horse quietly, find the rail and endeavour to have the horse close the race off strongly. He said it was thought SILLY BOY would be left racing wide and without cover if ridden forward. He said SILLY BOY began fairly and he immediately took his mount across behind runners to a position on the rail. He said making the turn at the 1000 Metres he would have had to ride SILLY BOY along to improve to follow SUPER FIGHTER. He said he did not do so as SILLY BOY was travelling comfortably and in a position in accordance with his instructions. He said SILLY BOY continued to travel comfortably into the Home Straight where he commenced to ride his mount along. He said SILLY BOY immediately responded to his riding, however, over about the final 100 Metres when closing the race off strongly SILLY BOY was not able to obtain clear running and therefore he was not able to fully test his mount. P H Lo was told his riding of SILLY BOY, particularly in the early stages, had come under notice and in the opinion of the Stewards he had overdone his instructions by not improving his position making the first turn. He was also told in future he should ride his mounts in a manner which leaves no room for query. GOLDEN WIN and SILLY BOY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN WIN and SILLY BOY after the race did not show any significant findings. TREASURE COLT, SUPER FIGHTER and CLEMENT ELITE were sent for sampling.
