Racing Incident Report

At declaration time, C Soumillon was declared as the rider of both SUPER RED and SUPER SPECIAL. It was established that C Soumillon had a firm commitment to ride SUPER RED. As such, the Stewards permitted F Coetzee to be substituted as the rider of SUPER SPECIAL. For this declaration error, C Soumillon was fined $2,000. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, NOBLE ZOOM failed to muster speed. Near the 900 Metres, TELECOM PERFECT became unbalanced when bumped by SUPER RED which shifted out after becoming unbalanced when bumped by CARELESS WHISPER which was carried wider by SO NICE. Near the 700 Metres, SUPER RED was momentarily steadied away from the heels of KING'S CHOICE (H W Lai) which shifted in when not properly clear. H W Lai was advised to exercise greater care. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, CARELESS WHISPER became unbalanced when bumped by SO NICE. After the 400 Metres, SUPER SPECIAL got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of TELECOM PERFECT, then in the early part of the Straight had difficulty obtaining clear running. In the early part of the Straight, NOBLE ZOOM had difficulty obtaining clear running and after the 300 Metres was checked away from the heels of SUPER RED which when giving ground was carried wider by STEP FORWARD which shifted to the outside of CARELESS WHISPER to obtain clear running. Throughout the race, GENERAL KINGY travelled wide and without cover. C Soumillon (SUPER RED) was unable to offer an explanation for the performance of the horse. He said it was anticipated SUPER RED would lead the race, however, the horse began only fairly and then raced in restricted room for a short distance. He said as a consequence SUPER RED was not able to lead and was obliged to race three wide and without cover. He said at the 600 Metres SUPER RED came under pressure and failed to respond to his riding. He said even though SUPER RED did travel in a wide position, the horse in his opinion should have kept on for longer than it did. SUPER RED was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of SUPER RED after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SUPER RED was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, SUPER RED will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Whyte (SO NICE) said throughout the race he was concerned with the action of the horse which had continually wanted to shift out. He said he rode along to obtain a forward position as instructed, however, SO NICE commenced to give ground shortly after straightening and because of the manner in which the horse was travelling, he did not ride it out over the concluding stages. Mr T W Leung, trainer of SO NICE, said he had elected to give the horse a long spell following its most recent start in July 2007 in the hope the horse would strengthen up. He said SO NICE had trialed satisfactorily leading into tonight's race. He was unable to offer any explanation for the performance of SO NICE. SO NICE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SO NICE after the race did not show any significant findings. Mr Leung was told in the circumstances SO NICE will be required to perform to the Stewards' satisfaction under pressure in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CARELESS WHISPER was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, CARELESS WHISPER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. KING'S CHOICE and SUPER SPECIAL were sent for sampling.
