Racing Incident Report

On jumping, SOMETHING SPECIAL was checked when crowded for room between SUPER FANTASY and BOLD CHAMPION. Also on jumping, PRIMIATA was bumped by KING OF SHAVER which began awkwardly and shifted in. UNDERDOG was slow to muster speed. Approaching the 1200 Metres, SUPER FANTASY got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of UNDERDOG which was racing ungenerously and hanging out. In the early stages, PRIMIATA travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, D Beadman (MULTO EXPRESSO) said in the early part of the Straight he placed his mount under pressure and it responded only fairly. He said in his opinion when MULTO EXPRESSO was not racing amongst other horses, the horse did not respond as he thought it should He said because of this approaching the 200 Metres despite there being clear running available to him on the inside of KINGSTON WINNER, he elected to shift his mount to the outside of that horse and improve into a narrow run between KINGSTON WINNER and BOLD CHAMPION. He said when he did this MULTO EXPRESSO appeared to race more genuinely and made strong ground until the 100 Metres. He said over the final 100 Metres MULTO EXPRESSO again was not racing amongst horses and in his opinion was entitled to finish the race off stronger than it did. The Stewards advised D Beadman that as they were satisfied his riding in the Home Straight did not affect the finishing position of MULTO EXPRESSO, they would note his explanation. Apprentice C W Wong (DASH) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said the intention had been to ride DASH with cover in 4th or 5th position, however, the horse did not muster sufficient speed in the early stages to obtain this position. He said at no stage of the race did DASH travel comfortably and making the turn at the 600 Metres he placed DASH under pressure, however, the horse did not respond to his riding. He said in the Straight DASH failed to finish the race off. DASH was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DASH after the race did not show any significant findings. SOMETHING SPECIAL and MULTO EXPRESSO were sent for sampling.
