Racing Incident Report

MAINLAND SHUTTLE was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore foot). Before being allowed to race again, MAINLAND SHUTTLE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. At the time of declarations, B Prebble, the declared rider of VICTORY MASCOT, notified a probable overweight of l lb. At the time of weighing out, B Prebble advised that he would be 2 lbs overweight on the horse. Mr C Fownes, trainer of VICTORY MASCOT, advised the Stewards that he wished to make application for a replacement rider as he did not want the horse to carry in excess of 1 lb overweight. Accordingly, G Cheyne was substituted as the rider of VICTORY MASCOT. B Prebble was fined $5,000. ELITE FORTUNE was slow to begin. In the early and middle stages, HIGH NOTE travelled wide and without cover from the outside draw and near the 700 Metres was allowed to stride forward to race near the lead. At the entrance to the Straight, AMITYSHIP was briefly steadied away from the heels of ABLE DRAGON. Near the 200 Metres, VICTORY MASCOT was crowded for room between ELITE FORTUNE and SUDDEN SPLENDOR which shifted out. Also near the 200 Metres, FLORAL IMAGE was momentarily held up for clear running inside BREAKING POINT which shifted in slightly. When questioned, Mr C S Shum, trainer of FLORAL IMAGE, stated that he had instructed Y T Cheng, the rider of the horse, to obtain a position with cover in midfield. He stated that the horse is a nervous type and for this reason he added a hood to the horse’s gear tonight. He said that it was hoped by obtaining cover on the horse, FLORAL IMAGE would be able to settle during the race and consequently finished off the race. Mr Shum said that he was happy with the manner in which FLORAL IMAGE was able to close the race off tonight when ridden with cover. A veterinary inspection of BREAKING POINT after the race revealed the horse had an inflamed throat. Before being allowed to race again, BREAKING POINT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of VICTORY MASCOT after the race did not show any significant findings. AMITYSHIP, ABLE DRAGON an ELITE FORTUNE were sent for sampling.
