Racing Incident Report

JUMBO GOLD, which was fractious in the barriers and momentarily got its right front foot over the barrier partition, was removed from the barriers and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said, in his opinion, the horse was suitable to race. Before being allowed to race again, JUMBO GOLD will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. EXTRA SPECIAL and THINK BIG were slow to begin. Shortly after the start, GOLDEN BAUHINIA was bumped by DUEL EXPRESS. Near the 850 Metres, THINK BIG, which was racing keenly, got its head up when being checked away from the heels of FAIR NAVIGATOR. Y T Cheng (STAR LEGEND) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at the 800 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent STAR LEGEND shifting out, resulting in WASABISABI being crowded for room and taken out across the rightful running of TIBIDABO which in turn was taken out across the rightful running of JUMBO GOLD, causing both TIBIDABO and JUMBO GOLD to be checked. In this incident, TIBIDABO bumped the hindquarters of CLASSIC NAVIGATOR which became badly unbalanced. EXTRA SPECIAL, which was following, was hampered in consequence. Y T Cheng was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 15 October 2009 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 7 October 2009. At the 600 Metres, WASABISABI raced in restricted room between CLASSIC NAVIGATOR and STAR LEGEND which had its head on the side and hung out. Near the 300 Metres, EXTRA SPECIAL shifted in to obtain clear running after being steadied away from the heels of THINK BIG when that horse commenced to weaken back through the field. Over the final 200 Metres, WASABISABI hung out and over the concluding stages brushed with FAIR NAVIGATOR. A veterinary inspection of JUMBO GOLD after the race did not show any significant findings. WASABISABI and FAIR NAVIGATOR were sent for sampling.
