Racing Incident Report

NEW CHAPTER, which made light contact with a running rail on leaving the Parade Ring, was examined on arrival at the Start and passed suitable to race. VANQUISH DELIGHT was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, MONTE CRISTO raced in restricted room between THE ONLY KID and DASHING THUNDER. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, WARM EMBRACES shifted out after being bumped by ANTIPASTO, resulting in HORACE’S LEGEND becoming unbalanced. For some distance after the 400 Metres, DASHING THUNDER was held up after being disappointed for running between ROYAL PEGASUS and SUPER CARDED which were both commencing to give ground. When questioned, W C Marwing stated that he was under specific instructions to shift MONTE CRISTO out wide in the Straight to make its run as the connections believed that the horse performs best when ridden in these circumstances. He said for this reason he elected to shift to the outside of THE ONLY KID rounding the Home Turn rather than improving to the inside of that horse where there was clear running. He said in the early part of the Straight he was momentarily held up for clear running behind VANQUISH DELIGHT and near the 350 Metres was obliged to shift to the inside of that horse to continue improving. W C Marwing added that although the opportunity presented itself to obtain clear running to the inside of THE ONLY KID rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, he was mindful of his instructions to ensure that he shifted the horse to the outside to make its finishing run. Throughout the race, LASKER travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of SUPER CARDED after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER CARDED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of LASKER after the race did not show any significant findings. HORACE’S LEGEND, MAJESTIC HEART and THE ONLY KID were sent for sampling.
