Racing Incident Report

As the start was effected, THISTLE SPIRIT lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin. HOME WITH GLORY was slow to begin. Shortly after the start, AMITYSHIP and MEDIC FORTUNE bumped and became unbalanced due to both horses shifting ground. Passing the 1000 Metres, ABLE DRAGON was steadied and lost ground after attempting to improve to the inside of WARM EMBRACES where there was doubtful room. Approaching the 500 Metres, MEDIC FORTUNE was steadied and lost ground when crowded for room inside HOME WITH GLORY (O Doleuze) which shifted in when being checked away from the heels of HARRY HARRY which at this time lost ground when awkwardly placed close to the heels of RECORD HIGH. O Doleuze was advised that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, he should, where circumstances permit, make every effort to prevent his mount from causing interference to other runners. Shortly after entering the Straight, WARM EMBRACES was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between HARRY HARRY which shifted out and RECORD HIGH which shifted in when giving ground. Throughout the race, STEEL NERVES and AMITYSHIP travelled wide and without cover. The performances of STEEL NERVES and THISTLE SPIRIT, which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, STEEL NERVES and THISTLE SPIRIT will both be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, O Doleuze stated that shortly after entering the Straight he positioned HOME WITH GLORY to take a run between BLEDISLOE and AMITYSHIP. He said as he did this, AMITYSHIP shifted in and he observed the head of BLEDISLOE being directed out, therefore he felt that the run would close and as such he elected to shift HOME WITH GLORY to the inside of BLEDISLOE to continue improving his position. He said no sooner had he made this decision that BLEDISLOE shifted back in and because of this he was not able to obtain clear running behind JOLLY WONGCHOY and BLEDISLOE. He added as he felt that a run might eventuate between those horses, passing the 150 Metres he directed HOME WITH GLORY to the outside of JOLLY WONGCHOY and to the inside of BLEDISLOE, however, as he did this, both horses shifted ground, resulting in him being disappointed for clear running. He said because of this he was not able to properly test HOME WITH GLORY in the Straight. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of RECORD HIGH, Y T Cheng stated that he had been asked to ride the horse positively in the early stages in order to overcome the horse’s awkward barrier. He said he was able to obtain a position outside the leader without having to make too much use of RECORD HIGH and after obtaining this position, RECORD HIGH travelled well. He said when AMITYSHIP pressed forward passing the 800 Metres, he allowed that horse to cross to provide RECORD HIGH with cover. He said however that RECORD HIGH came under pressure before the Home Turn and was then disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. He added that he had ridden RECORD HIGH in track work in the lead up to tonight’s race and, in his opinion, that work had been only fair. A veterinary inspection of RECORD HIGH after the race did not show any significant findings. JOLLY WONGCHOY and BLEDISLOE were sent for sampling.
