Racing Incident Report

LET’S GOAL was slow to begin. LOYAL ARMY was crowded for room at the start between EIGHT PLUS NINE and TOUCH GO, both of which shifted ground. In this incident, TOUCH GO became unbalanced. From a wide barrier, GO FAY FAY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. For some distance after the 1200 Metres, CHEERFUL DELIGHTS proved very difficult to settle and then for some distance afterwards was steadied away from the heels of firstly LEADING CITY and then MASCOT FORTUNE. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, MASCOT FORTUNE took some time to muster speed and consequently raced wide and without cover throughout the race. Approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, LEADING CITY proved very difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TOUCH GO for some distance. At the entrance to the Straight, FULFIL A WISH and LET’S GOAL bumped heavily as a result of LET’S GOAL initially shifting out and then being taken out further by DRAGON VICTORY which in turn was taken out by MASTER RIO. Because of this, both LET’S GOAL and FULFIL A WISH became unbalanced. Passing the 200 Metres, DRAGON VICTORY was checked when held up for clear running behind TOUCH GO which was giving ground. Near the 100 Metres, MASCOT FORTUNE was steadied when racing in restricted room between LET’S GOAL and FULFIL A WISH which was taken in slightly by GO FAY FAY. In the Straight, LONGWAH RISING got its head on the side and shifted out under pressure. When questioned, Y T Cheng stated that he had been instructed if TOUCH GO began well to ride the horse positively in the early stages and to have it travel where it was comfortable. He said at its most recent starts when being held up, TOUCH GO had not finished off its races. D Beadman (LEADING CITY) reported that on pulling up the horse coughed. When questioned, D Whyte stated that he was asked to ride FULFIL A WISH in a midfield or slightly worse position from barrier 12 as the horse was stepping up in distance to 1400 Metres and it was felt that there was good pace in the race which would be generated by horses more favourably drawn. He said it was hoped that FULFIL A WISH would be able to obtain a position with cover. He said after shifting FULFIL A WISH across behind runners shortly after the start, he was positioned outside CHEERFUL DELIGHTS which at this time was proving very difficult to settle. He said when CHEERFUL DELIGHTS shifted out near the 1000 Metres, he steadied FULFIL A WISH further to obtain a position with cover behind that horse which resulted in FULFIL A WISH racing further back than had been intended. A veterinary inspection of LEADING CITY, FULFIL A WISH and DRAGON VICTORY after the race did not show any significant findings. LEADING CITY, EIGHT PLUS NINE and LONGWAH RISING were sent for sampling.
<17/1/2011 Additional Veterinary Report>FULFIL A WISH, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. FULFIL A WISH was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer J Size this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, FULFIL A WISH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
