Racing Incident Report

QUANTUM POWER was crowded for room at the start between CENTURY SUPER STAR and SMART KIDS. From the outside barrier, DREAM BUILDER was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Near the 1100 Metres, SMART KIDS was steadied away from the heels of QUANTUM POWER which shifted out. Near the 500 Metres, CHATER D’CAT was steadied away from the heels of CENTURY SUPER STAR. Near the 100 Metres, ROYAL DOCTOR got its head on the side and shifted out. Throughout the race, NEEDLES AND THREAD and CLYDESIDER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MASTER RIO, O Doleuze stated that his mount normally travels well in the early stages. He said today however that he had to make considerable use of MASTER RIO in the early stages to have it obtain a forward position, however, despite his efforts MASTER RIO was obliged to race further back in the field than had been intended. He added after the 1000 Metres he shifted MASTER RIO across to follow the eventual winner, QUANTUM POWER, however, MASTER RIO travelled only fairly and when QUANTUM POWER quickened after the 500 Metres MASTER RIO did not show a similar turn of foot. He said he placed MASTER RIO under pressure in the Straight, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. When questioned regarding the performance of LOADS OF JOY, Z Purton stated that he had been riding the horse in some of its work in the lead up to today’s race and, in his opinion, this work had only been fair. He said in the early stages LOADS OF JOY did not show its customary early speed and as he would have been obliged to ride the horse along to maintain the lead, he elected to allow RUMBA KING to cross. He said LOADS OF JOY travelled only fairly throughout the race and came under pressure rounding the Home Turn. He said after this LOADS OF JOY was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of MASTER RIO and LOADS OF JOY after the race did not show any significant findings. QUANTUM POWER and ROYAL DOCTOR were sent for sampling.
