Racing Incident Report

ACTIVISM was slow to begin.
GREEN MANNER began awkwardly and blundered.
SMILING WATCH and GARLIC BOY bumped at the start.
For a considerable distance after the 1400 Metres, RADIOMARELLI took charge of its rider, refused to settle and had to be checked away from the heels of RIO WILLIE. In doing so, RADIOMARELLI shifted in near the 1200 Metres, resulting in RACING HERO being crowded for room onto PERI PERI SAFFRON which was hampered. RADIOMARELLI then shifted out abruptly, resulting in COMMON GOAL being hampered. A veterinary inspection of RADIOMARELLI including an endoscopic examination after the race showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The racing manners and performance of RADIOMARELLI, a last start winner, which was eased down in the Straight, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, RADIOMARELLI will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the 900 Metres, RIO WILLIE was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 700 Metres, SMILING WATCH lost ground after being checked away from the heels of YUE LU TREASURE. As a consequence, RACING HERO, which was improving to the outside of SMILING WATCH, was badly crowded for room between that horse and COMMON GOAL which, after being bumped by RACING HERO on a number of occasions, became unbalanced. GREEN MANNER and GARLIC BOY, which were following, were badly checked in consequence and YOU KNOW I WIN was taken wider.
ACTIVISM had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
PERI PERI SAFFRON was badly held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 300 Metres was shifted to the inside of CARE FREE PEGASUS to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 200 Metres, CARE FREE PEGASUS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of RIGHT TIMING and was shifted to the inside of that horse to continue improving. When CARE FREE PEGASUS shifted in, PERI PERI SAFFRON was momentarily tightened for room inside that horse.
Near the 150 Metres, PERI PERI SAFFRON was crowded for room inside CARE FREE PEGASUS (C Y Ho) which was taken in slightly by RIGHT TIMING (Apprentice K C Ng) which shifted in marginally before relieving the pressure to the horses to its inside. CARE FREE PEGASUS and PERI PERI SAFFRON then raced very tight, resulting in both horses becoming badly unbalanced and PERI PERI SAFFRON being checked. Apprentice Ng was advised that the incident was commenced by his mount shifting in albeit marginally and he was also advised to make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in future. C Y Ho was advised that after having the pressure relieved by Apprentice Ng, the Stewards would expect that in similar circumstances he would do more than he did on this occasion to prevent his mounts from shifting further, resulting in the interference to PERI PERI SAFFRON.
When questioned regarding his riding of YOU KNOW I WIN rounding the Home Turn and particularly in the early part of the Straight, W C Marwing stated that he had been instructed, from barrier 13, to shift his mount across behind runners shortly after the start to obtain a position with cover. He said at the 600 Metres YOU KNOW I WIN was taken wider due to interference being caused to runners in advance and to his inside. He said after this YOU KNOW I WIN got its head on the side, hung out and did not feel comfortable in its action. He said in the early part of the Straight YOU KNOW I WIN continued to get its head on the side, hung out and did not feel as though it was stretching out comfortably. He said for this reason he was not able to place the horse under heavy pressure. He added that after the 300 Metres YOU KNOW I WIN commenced to race more tractably and it was at this time that he was able to commence riding the horse along including using the whip on it. He said that he continued to ride YOU KNOW I WIN vigorously out to the end of the race and the horse closed off the race strongly. W C Marwing was advised that his riding of YOU KNOW I WIN rounding the Home Turn and in particular in the early part of the Straight had come under notice and that in future he would be expected to ride his mounts with sufficient purpose and vigour so as to ensure that his riding is not open to query.
A veterinary inspection of PERI PERI SAFFRON after the race did not show any significant findings.
GARLIC BOY and GREEN MANNER were sent for sampling.
