Racing Incident Report

MERIDIAN TREASURE was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetence). Before being allowed to race again, MERIDIAN TREASURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
From wide barriers, BRILLIANT SHINE and SHARP HUNTER were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
For some distance after the 1000 Metres, NORDIC ONE travelled keenly in the lead.
At the 300 Metres, WITHINMYHEART and I’M IN CHARGE bumped as WITHINMYHEART attempted to shift out from behind TARZAN I AM. After this, WITHINMYHEART was held up for clear running and near the 150 Metres was steadied when disappointed for running between I’M IN CHARGE and TARZAN I AM which shifted out. WITHINMYHEART was then unable to obtain clear running until the concluding stages and consequently was not able to be properly tested.
Over the concluding stages, ALL FRIENDS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of NORDIC ONE. Because of this, ALL FRIENDS was not able to be ridden out right to the end of the race.
For the majority of the race, POLYMER WIN travelled wide and without cover.
I’M IN CHARGE lost its right front plate after passing the winning post.
When questioned, K Teetan stated that he was instructed, from barrier 9, to shift SPITFIRE across behind runners and obtain cover. He said it was explained to him that when ridden in forward positions in its last three races, SPITFIRE had not been able to finish off its races and it was hoped that it may be able to settle back in the field and therefore close off the race. He said after being shifted across behind runners in the early part of the race, SPITFIRE proved difficult to settle and making the turn near the 1000 Metres was hampered when crowded for room between POLYMER WIN and MULTIVICTORY which shifted out away from the heels of I’M IN CHARGE. He said after this SPITFIRE over-raced badly and would not settle and consequently was not able to finish off the race. He added after the race he informed the connections of the difficulties he experienced in the race and suggested they may consider having the horse ridden more positively in its future races.
A veterinary inspection of POLYMER WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MULTIVICTORY and JOYFUL THE GREAT were sent for sampling.
