Racing Incident Report

JOY N FUN LEGEND began only fairly.
SNOW AIRJET was slow to begin, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of UNIVERSAL GO GO, resulting in UNIVERSAL GO GO becoming unbalanced and SNOW AIRJET losing ground. SNOW AIRJET was then vigorously ridden to make up lost ground, however, after the 1200 Metres was left racing wide and without cover.
Shortly after the start, PRETTY BAUHINIA and GALAXY EMPEROR raced tight.
From the outside barriers, CHARITY WINGS and HAPPY WIN WIN were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
SUMSTREETSUMWHERE travelled wide and without cover until after the 1200 Metres.
The Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason for H N Wong being dislodged from GALAXY EMPEROR near the 400 Metres. After taking evidence from Apprentice C Wong (EVER STRONG), C Schofield (UNIVERSAL GO GO) and H W Lai (SNOW AIRJET), the Stewards adjourned the matter until a date to be fixed so that evidence could be taken from H N Wong who was not able to provide evidence due to being transported to hospital. When H N Wong was dislodged, HAPPY ICHIBAN was checked out away from GALAXY EMPEROR, resulting in PRETTY BAUHINIA and HAPPY WIN WIN being hampered and taken wider. JOY N FUN LEGEND and CHARITY WINGS were also both badly hampered in consequence.
The performances of EVER STRONG and JOY N FUN LEGEND, both of which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, EVER STRONG and JOY N FUN LEGEND will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of SNOW AIRJET, EVER STRONG and GALAXY EMPEROR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
TANGMERE and BLOOMING SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
<29/4/2020 Adjourned Inquiry – 22 April 2020 Happy Valley Racemeeting – Race 6 (598)>The Stewards tonight concluded an inquiry into the reason for H N Wong being dislodged from GALAXY EMPEROR near the 400 Metres. Evidence was tonight taken from H N Wong with further evidence being taken from Apprentice C Wong (EVER STRONG), C Schofield (UNIVERSAL GO GO) and H W Lai (SNOW AIRJET). It was found that as GALAXY EMPEROR was being directed to the outside of the heels of EVER STRONG passing the 400 Metres, EVER STRONG was eased by its rider when briefly tightened for room inside UNIVERSAL GO GO which was racing inside SNOW AIRJET. When EVER STRONG was eased, GALAXY EMPEROR clipped the heels of that horse and blundered, resulting in H N Wong being dislodged. Although EVER STRONG was briefly tightened for room passing the 400 Metres, on the evidence before the Stewards, it was not able to be established whether this was as a result of a shift in from UNIVERSAL GO GO or SNOW AIRJET. In any event, the Stewards were satisfied that any shift from either of those horses was minimal and would not be such that would result in the rider being deemed to have ridden carelessly. Accordingly, no further action was taken other than both C Schofield and H W Lai were advised to ensure that they leave comfortable racing room for runners on their inside at all times.
