Racing Incident Report

On jumping, INVALUABLE was crowded for room between MCMUNIGAL and HAPPY ICHIBAN, both of which shifted ground.
LEADING FORTUNE was crowded for room on jumping between BEAUTY ANGEL and JIMMU, both of which shifted ground. After this, from a wide barrier, JIMMU was shifted across behind runners.
From the outside barrier, DRAGON PRIDE was also shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Near the 1500 Metres, BEAUTY ANGEL was steadied away from the heels of GORGEOUS INHERITOR when being shifted across behind that horse to obtain cover. After this, BEAUTY ANGEL travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GORGEOUS INHERITOR.
After the 1000 Metres, GORGEOUS INHERITOR travelled wide and without cover and after coming under pressure rounding the Home Turn gave ground in the Straight and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of GORGEOUS INHERITOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GORGEOUS INHERITOR was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GORGEOUS INHERITOR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Approaching the 500 Metres, HAPPY ICHIBAN was momentarily steadied when crowded for room between NATURAL STORM and BEAUTY ANGEL which lay in.
NATURAL STORM had difficulty obtaining a run in the early part of the Straight and passing the 300 Metres was shifted in away from the heels of SHINEALOT to obtain clear running. After this, SHINEALOT, which was commencing to give ground, was momentarily awkwardly placed outside NATURAL STORM which shifted out.
The Stewards considered a protest/objection lodged by B Shinn, the rider of JIMMU, which finished 4th, against MCMUNIGAL (M F Poon), 3rd placegetter, alleging interference to his mount approaching the 100 Metres. After taking evidence from all parties concerned and after viewing the videos, it was established that passing the 300 Metres MCMUNIGAL shifted out a number of horses under pressure which resulted in its rider changing his whip over into his left hand near the 200 Metres. It was further established that MCMUNIGAL then shifted in a number of horses under pressure and at the 125 Metres shifted in across the rightful running of JIMMU which at this time was finishing off the race strongly. When MCMUNIGAL shifted in across the rightful running of JIMMU, the rider of that horse had to momentarily desist from using the whip and ease his mount away from the heels of MCMUNIGAL and shift to the outside of that horse to continue improving. JIMMU then continued to finish off the race strongly over the concluding stages. Having regard to the nose margin between the horses at the end of the race and the manner in which both horses were finishing off the race, the Stewards were satisfied that had JIMMU not been hampered by MCMUNIGAL as that horse shifted in at the 125 Metres, JIMMU would have finished in front of MCMUNIGAL and accordingly the protest/objection was sustained and the placings amended to read No. 5, PERFECT TO PLAY, 1st; No. 7, NATURAL STORM, 2nd; No. 2, JIMMU, 3rd and No. 9, MCMUNIGAL, 4th. M F Poon was subsequently severely reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift out a considerable number of horses under pressure approaching the 200 Metres and then permitting his mount to shift in under pressure at the 125 Metres which resulted in JIMMU being hampered.
When questioned, H T Mo stated that, from a wide barrier, he was asked to have BEAUTY ANGEL, which was racing over 1800 Metres for the first time today, travelling where it was comfortable. He said he was also asked not to ride his mount along in the early stages as BEAUTY ANGEL may not be able to finish off its race if use was made of it to obtain a forward position, however, if the horse began well and was able to obtain a prominent position, then this was acceptable. He said BEAUTY ANGEL began satisfactorily, however, a number of horses, which were drawn better than BEAUTY ANGEL began quite well and were then ridden along and accordingly he attempted to obtain cover in the early stages initially behind GORGEOUS INHERITOR. He said due to the circumstances of the race BEAUTY ANGEL was left racing wide and without cover at the 1200 Metres. He said in order to avoid having to race wide he would have had to ride his mount along in the early stages which would have been contrary to his instructions.
When questioned regarding the performance of LEADING FORTUNE, C Schofield stated that he was asked to ride the horse quietly from a wide barrier as LEADING FORTUNE was stepping up in distance to 1800 Metres for the first time today. He said due to the makeup of the field in the early stages, he was obliged to steady LEADING FORTUNE back to the tail of the field to obtain a position closer to the rail. He said, in his opinion, LEADING FORTUNE did not appear comfortable racing amongst horses when racing inside KUNGFUMASTER PANDA in the early and middle stages. He said when KUNGFUMASTER PANDA continued to race outside LEADING FORTUNE rounding the Home Turn, he was unable to shift LEADING FORTUNE to the outside as this would have required him to steady the horse for some distance. He added LEADING FORTUNE did not quicken in the early part of the Straight and then finished off the race only one-paced. He said whilst the horse was disappointing, he felt that the circumstances of the race did not suit LEADING FORTUNE. A veterinary inspection of LEADING FORTUNE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of LEADING FORTUNE, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LEADING FORTUNE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of CHEERFUL STAR and CALIFORNIA LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SHINEALOT immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SHINEALOT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
MCMUNIGAL, PERFECT TO PLAY and NATURAL STORM were sent for sampling.
