Racing Incident Report
ARMOUR EAGLE lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected, shifted in and bumped SUPER VINCE.
TELECOM SPIRIT was crowded for room on jumping between SOLID IMPACT and JUMBO LEGEND, both of which shifted ground. SOLID IMPACT then became unbalanced after bumping TELECOM SPIRIT and was steadied when crowded for room a short distance after the start between TELECOM SPIRIT and STAR BRITE which shifted in.
POWER KOEPP shifted out at the start and bumped BUNDLE OF CHARM, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. POWER KOEPP and BUNDLE OF CHARM again made contact a short distance later, resulting in both horses again becoming unbalanced. Then near the 1150 Metres, ARMOUR EAGLE and POWER KOEPP raced tight between SUPER VINCE and BUNDLE OF CHARM which shifted in.
From the outside barrier, SATIRICAL GLORY was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Making the turn after the 1100 Metres, SUPER VINCE shifted out and bumped ARMOUR EAGLE.
SATIRICAL GLORY got its head on the side and made the turn after the 1000 Metres awkwardly and then again got its head on the side and lay out making the turn after the 600 Metres.
After the 900 Metres, POWER KOEPP was left racing wide and without cover and then near the 700 Metres was taken wider again by ARMOUR EAGLE which, when travelling keenly, was taken out by SUPER VINCE which shifted out away from the heels of BUNDLE OF CHARM.
SOLID IMPACT lost its right hind plate approaching the 700 Metres.
Near the 700 Metres, JUMBO LEGEND was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SOLID IMPACT.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, SUPER VINCE shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ARMOUR EAGLE.
At the entrance to the Straight, SUPER VINCE was shifted to the inside of STAR BRITE and then shifted in further to the inside of HAPPY SHARING after the 300 Metres in an attempt to obtain clear running. SUPER VINCE then had difficulty obtaining clear running when racing close to the heels of HAPPY SHARING after the 250 Metres and passing the 200 Metres improved into tight running between HAPPY SHARING and BUNDLE OF CHARM which was bumped by SUPER VINCE. SUPER VINCE then raced tight inside HAPPY SHARING passing the 100 Metres and over the concluding stages was crowded for room inside HAPPY SHARING (L Ferraris) which, after shifting in marginally under pressure, was then corrected by its rider. When HAPPY SHARING was being corrected, SUPER VINCE bumped the hindquarters of HAPPY SHARING which resulted in that horse being turned in across SUPER VINCE, causing that horse to be checked and BUNDLE OF CHARM becoming unbalanced when crowded for room inside SUPER VINCE. L Ferraris was told that whilst the shift from HAPPY SHARING was not a great one, nonetheless he should have reacted quicker than he did on this occasion to his mount shifting ground and taken corrective measures sooner than he did.
At the 300 Metres, SOLID IMPACT was checked when attempting to improve into tight running between POWER KOEPP which shifted in marginally and ARMOUR EAGLE which shifted out after being brushed by STAR BRITE. As the Stewards were of the opinion that there was no rider carelessness associated with this incident, no further action was taken. When SOLID IMPACT was checked, SATIRICAL GLORY, which was following, was hampered in consequence.
Passing the 300 Metres, JUMBO LEGEND was directed out away from the heels of SUPER VINCE to continue improving and approaching the 150 Metres was bumped by ARMOUR EAGLE which shifted in.
Close to the finishing line, H Bowman (STAR BRITE) dropped his whip.
After the race, it was reported that TELECOM SPIRIT had bled from both nostrils.
A veterinary inspection of ARMOUR EAGLE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
JUMBO LEGEND, POWER KOEPP and STAR BRITE were sent for sampling.
