Was struck across the head by the whip of a rider near the 150M. When questioned regarding his riding, rider stated that he expected to take up a position behind midfield from his wide barrier. He said from the 700M he improved to the inside of the eventual winner to follow the 4th placegetter into the event. He said when the eventual winner was ridden forward by its rider, it did not immediately respond to rider’s efforts and for that reason he elected to shift to the inside of the 4th placegetter to secure clear running as he would have been required to ease his mount back to obtain clear running to the outside of the eventual winner on the Home Turn. He added after being able to ride his mount along in the early part of the Home Straight, his mount became badly held up near the 250M behind the 8th placegetter and when that runner then commenced to give ground, he was obliged to check to avoid the 8th placegetter approaching the 150M. He further stated that after improving to the outside of the 8th placegetter soon after his mount then lay out which restricted his ability to fully test his mount out to the finish of the event as he was concerned that had he elected to regather his reins his mount would shift out and he had already been racing in restricted room between two runners. After considering his evidence, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by rider on the Home Turn were reasonable in the circumstances and were satisfied with his explanation for his riding out of the horse - Race 115.

When questioned, rider stated that from a wide barrier he was requested to ride his mount in a conservative manner in the early stages as the horse had raced disappointingly at its last start when ridden in a forward position. Trainer confirmed the instructions and the reason as to why he issued those instructions. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 165.
