10 E336  CHEVAL VALIANT  26/01/2025   384  CHEVAL VALIANT (E336) the Stewards conducted an inquiry into the reason for the eventual winner being able to improve to the outside of the horse near the 350M when the horse shifted in and away from the outside rail. Evidence was taken from trainer, rider of the horse, and rider of the eventual winner. Rider of the horse stated that the instructions were to hold the lead and to carry his whip in his right hand as his mount has a tendency to lay in in its races. He stated that when he first asked his mount to improve from the 600M it commenced to lay in and for that reason approaching the 450M he took his hand from his left rein to regather his mount and attempt to straighten it. He said at the same time he shifted his weight in the saddle towards the outside to further prevent his mount from shifting in. When questioned regarding his left arm extending out and away from the horse, rider stated that it was a common trait in his riding that his left arm would extend away from his horse when performing similar actions. Rider of the eventual winner confirmed that she was given no instruction in relation to the positioning of the horse, however, she was aware that having previously ridden the horse before that the horse does have a tendency to lay in in its races and potentially a run may become available on the stand rail. After considering all the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that the horse had shifted in due to its own racing manners and that rider of the horse had endeavoured to prevent his mount from shifting in but was unable to do so which resulted in the eventual winner obtaining a clear run to its outside - Race 384.
