2 J451  GALLANT EPOCH  09/04/2025   578  GALLANT EPOCH (J451) when questioned regarding his riding and the fast early pace his mount set throughout the early and middle stages, rider stated that the instructions were to take up a forward position but to ensure that his mount did not obtain cover as his mount has raced best when able to dictate. He said in the early stages he rode his mount along to comply with the instructions where he obtained a position outside the leader. He said near the 1200M he then urged his mount forward to cross the leader which resulted in his mount commencing to race keenly. He added when positioned in advance of the leader near the 1100M he encouraged his mount forward to cross that runner but his mount did not show sufficient pace to do so and as a result he was obliged to make further use of his mount entering the Back Straight where he eventually was able to cross the leader near the 800M. Trainer confirmed the instructions issued and stated that the horse may have been disadvantaged by having its first race start at Happy Valley. After considering the sectional times of the event which showed the early stages of the race being run well inside of standard time, rider was advised by the Stewards that he had made an error of judgement in the early stages by continuing to endeavour to go forward to cross the leader. He was further advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to show better judgement than what he did on that occasion. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 578.
3 J481  TOP DRAGON  23/03/2025   524  TOP DRAGON (J481) near the 400M was hampered when taken wider. After the event, rider stated that from a wide barrier the instructions were to find a position midfield with cover if possible. He said when his mount was caught wide and without cover in the early stages he was obliged to restrain his mount to race towards the rear of the field to avoid covering additional ground. He added that under pressure in the Home Straight his mount responded only fairly to his riding and he attributed it to the horse settling further back in the field. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings. Performance was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts. Has since performed to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and passed an official vet exam – Race 524.
