When questioned, Apprentice K H Chan (NUNCHUKS) stated that near the 550 Metres he commenced to direct NUNCHUKS to the outside of NOBLE DESIRE. He said at this time he received a call from the rider of POWER KING and as he felt that he was not sufficiently clear to continue to shift out, he steadied NUNCHUKS before again commencing to shift to the outside of NOBLE DESIRE near the 500 Metres. He said at this time he again received a call from the rider of POWER KING and therefore he directed his mount back in to resume his position behind NOBLE DESIRE as he felt that continuing to shift out would cause interference to POWER KING. He said as he commenced to shift back in, he then became aware that PERFECT PAIR had improved to be racing inside the heels of NUNCHUKS and therefore he directed his mount out abruptly after the 500 Metres to ensure that he did not cause interference to PERFECT PAIR. He added that this resulted in NUNCHUKS becoming unbalanced rounding the Home Turn.

A veterinary inspection of SMART FOLKS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of PRECIOUS EXPRESS, which was eased down in the Straight, found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CALIFORNIA CONCORD, K Teetan stated that he had to ride his mount aggressively in the early stages to take up a forward position as instructed. He said CALIFORNIA CONCORD did not travel well at any stage of the race and he had to continually ride the horse along in an endeavor to maintain its position. He said passing the 600 Metres CALIFORNIA CONCORD commenced to give ground despite being ridden along and then came under heavy pressure prior to the Home Turn and after this did not finish off the race. He said CALIFORNIA CONCORD did not stretch out at any stage of the race and was not comfortable in its action. A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA CONCORD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CALIFORNIA CONCORD, favourite for the race, was considered unacceptable. As this was the second consecutive occasion that GORGEOUS INHERITOR had finished tailed out in its races, the Stewards ruled that that horse must perform satisfactorily in not less than three consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again. A veterinary inspection of GORGEOUS INHERITOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in whilst they considered if APEX TOP had been afforded a fair start. After viewing the videos, it was established that immediately prior to the start being effected, APEX TOP became fractious and put its head down, resulting in its rider, C Schofield, becoming unbalanced and reaching out with his right hand onto the barrier structure to regain balance. It was further established that when he did this, the start was effected and this resulted in APEX TOP losing a considerable amount of ground. As the Stewards were satisfied that APEX TOP had caused its own difficulties by becoming fractious just prior to the start being effected and that the Starter could not have been in a position to anticipate APEX TOP’s behaviour, that horse was found to have been afforded a fair start and accordingly was declared a runner. Whilst it did not influence the decision of the Stewards, neither C Schofield nor the connections of APEX TOP made application for the horse to be declared a non-runner. Before being allowed to race again, APEX TOP will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
A veterinary inspection of TELECOM ROCKET, SUN OF MAKFI and APEX TOP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
