Near the 1000 Metres, TAKING AIM was left racing wide and without cover.
THE ROCK made the Home Turn awkwardly.
H N Wong (GREAT TREASURE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 350 Metres he directed his mount out when not clear of ABOVE, resulting in that horse having to be checked away from the heels of GREAT TREASURE and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. H N Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Thursday, 1 October 2020 and to expire on Monday, 5 October 2020 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). Near the 100 Metres, CHICKEN DANCE shifted out, requiring its rider to stop riding and correct his mount. Then over the concluding stages, CHICKEN DANCE again shifted out, requiring its rider to again stop riding and straighten the horse.
When questioned, A Hamelin stated that it was intended for SUPER COMMANDER to be ridden in about a midfield position if possible. He said in the early stages he steadied his mount with a view to obtaining cover, however, SUPER COMMANDER would not relax sufficiently for him to be able to obtain a trailing position behind BABY. He said when left racing wide and without cover near the 1000 Metres, SUPER COMMANDER travelled very keenly and therefore he had no option but to allow his mount to improve its position to race closer to the lead which resulted in SUPER COMMANDER travelling wide and without cover throughout the race. He added that he recommended to connections that they consider removing the blinkers from the horse at its future starts. Mr A T Millard, the trainer of SUPER COMMANDER, confirmed that it is his intention to experiment with the gear carried by SUPER COMMANDER in an attempt to have the horse settle better than it did in today’s race.

After the 1200 Metres, EXCELLENT PROPOSAL was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 900 Metres, AMAZING ONE PLUS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of RIGHT CHOICE.
At the entrance to the Straight, INSAYSHABLE was shifted in away from the heels of FLYING QUEST to improve. RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of INSAYSHABLE in consequence. RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE then had difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 200 Metres.
AMAZING ONE PLUS was held up for clear running from on straightening until passing the 300 Metres. AMAZING ONE PLUS then improved into tight running between SUPER OASIS and ASSIMILATE and passing the 200 Metres raced tight inside SUPER OASIS.
Approaching the 300 Metres, FLYING QUEST was directed out away from the heels of EASY GO EASY WIN which got its head on the side and shifted out.
Near the 100 Metres, AMAZING ONE PLUS was bumped and taken out by ASSIMILATE which was hampered when RIGHT CHOICE was taken out by SUNSHINE WARRIOR which in turn was directed out by EASY GO EASY WIN (M L Yeung) which continued to lay out under pressure. M L Yeung was reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort to prevent his mounts from shifting ground than he did on this occasion.
When questioned, M Chadwick stated that he was asked to ensure that he obtained cover on SUNSHINE WARRIOR and it was hoped that he may be able to obtain a midfield position and be able to follow the favourite EXCELLENT PROPOSAL which was anticipated would be able to take a relatively prominent position. He said it was explained to him that SUNSHINE WARRIOR had not finished off a number of its races last season when exposed too early and therefore it was hoped that obtaining a position in midfield would allow the horse to travel into the race and close off stronger. He said SUNSHINE WARRIOR began only fairly and he immediately shifted in behind ASSIMILATE. He said SUNSHINE WARRIOR dropped the bridle in the early stages and he had to ride his mount along for some distance approaching and passing the 1500 Metres as SUNSHINE WARRIOR was getting out of its ground. He said he was able to improve his position to be following AMAZING ONE PLUS and then when the pace of the race was only fair in the middle stages, SUNSHINE WARRIOR was awkwardly placed behind that horse approaching and passing the 900 Metres. He added SUNSHINE WARRIOR then clipped the heels of AMAZING ONE PLUS near the 850 Metres and dipped. He said SUNSHINE WARRIOR had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and then approaching the 350 Metres was shifted in away from the heels of RIGHT CHOICE which shifted in marginally.
After the race, Z Purton stated that AMAZING ONE PLUS was agitated in the barriers and then in the early and middle stages would not relax for him as he expected. He said although AMAZING ONE PLUS had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the Straight, the horse did not quicken into the run which became available between SUPER OASIS and ASSIMILATE and although the horse was hampered over the concluding stages, AMAZING ONE PLUS was beaten at this stage which he put down to the fact that the horse would not relax for him in the race. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING ONE PLUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned regarding his riding of ASSIMILATE in the early stages, A Hamelin stated that he was given two sets of instructions, namely to take up a forward position if ASSIMILATE began well or obtain cover on the horse if ASSIMILATE did not begin well. He said ASSIMILATE began well and when EASY GO EASY WIN and NORTHERN SUPERSTAR were both being ridden to obtain a forward position, he allowed firstly EASY GO EASY WIN to cross ASSIMILATE near the 1400 Metres and then commenced to shift over to obtain a position one horse off the rail in front of RIGHT CHOICE. He said as he was doing this, RIGHT CHOICE was ridden vigorously to maintain its position inside ASSIMILATE and as he was not clear of RIGHT CHOICE at this time, he felt that he would have had to make a lot of use of ASSIMILATE to then cross that horse. He said as he was doing this, NORTHERN SUPERSTAR was able to improve its position forward of ASSIMILATE passing the 1200 Metres and it was then no longer available for him to ride his mount along to clear RIGHT CHOICE as NORTHERN SUPERSTAR obtained the position in front of that horse. He said this resulted in ASSIMILATE being left racing three wide and without cover after the 1100 Metres. A Hamelin was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he must ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner that they do not cover unnecessary ground wherever appropriate circumstances exist. A Hamelin stated that although ASSIMILATE was required to race three wide and without cover in the middle stages, the horse came under pressure at the entrance to the Straight and did not quicken for him. He added when EXCELLENT PROPOSAL and FLYING QUEST were able to improve their position forward of ASSIMILATE approaching the 300 Metres, ASSIMILATE came under heavy pressure and then, despite being ridden out, was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of ASSIMILATE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SUPER OASIS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
EXCELLENT PROPOSAL and SAVVY NINE were sent for sampling.
