Race:1 (758) TOURMALINE HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1600 m

On entering the track, ANONYMA became fractious, resulting in N Callan, its rider, being dislodged. ANONYMA then galloped riderless for some distance. Acting on advice from the Veterinary Officer that ANONYMA was not suitable to race, that horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Mr D E Ferraris, trainer of ANONYMA, was advised that as this was the second occasion in which ANONYMA had performed in a similar manner, the last time being prior to an intended barrier trial, the horse will be required to undergo a parade test which will include ANONYMA proceeding for a distance on the track satisfactorily and be subjected to an official veterinary examination prior to being permitted to race again.
JOY MASTER began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped LUCKY MISSILE.
On jumping, H N Wong’s (HAPPY WINNER) left foot slipped from the stirrup iron.
WONDER EXPRESS shifted out at the start and inconvenienced JIANGXI STAMINA.
From wide barriers, RIGHTEOUS WIN and JIMMU were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
For some distance approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, JIANGXI STAMINA raced with its head on the side and lay in.
A Badel (RUN RUN GOOD) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of LUCKY MISSILE, resulting in that horse being directed in across the rightful running of JIANGXI STAMINA which as a result was checked when crowded for room and losing its running between LUCKY MISSILE and WONDER EXPRESS. Having regard to a previous period of suspension involving the final 5 racemeetings of the current racing season, the Stewards decided that the appropriate penalty was for Jockey Badel to be fined the sum of $180,000 in lieu of a period of suspension which would incorporate 3 racedays.
Near the 950 Metres, JOY MASTER got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of JIANGXI STAMINA.
After the 900 Metres, HAPPY WINNER was left racing wide and without cover.
Near the 850 Metres, SMILING FACE was inconvenienced by LIGHT MY DAY (K C Leung) which shifted in when not quite clear. Then making the turn after the 850 Metres, MAGIC BONUS got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of LIGHT MY DAY which again shifted in when not quite clear. K C Leung was reprimanded and told to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance in similar circumstances.
Passing the 700 Metres, CRUCIATUS was taken wider and without cover by JIANGXI STAMINA which shifted to the outside of RUN RUN GOOD.
WONDER EXPRESS had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Passing the 300 Metres, SMILING FACE was bumped and taken in by HAPPY WINNER which shifted in under pressure.
Close to the finishing line, JIANGXI STAMINA got its head on the side and shifted out, requiring its rider to correct his mount.
Also close to the finishing line, JIMMU was directed out away from the heels of JOY MASTER.
After the race, H W Lai reported that CRUCIATUS was making an abnormal breathing noise throughout the race. A veterinary inspection of CRUCIATUS immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported. The performance of CRUCIATUS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CRUCIATUS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
The performance of MAGIC BONUS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MAGIC BONUS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of MAGIC BONUS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
A veterinary inspection of WONDER EXPRESS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, WONDER EXPRESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, it was reported that CHEEKY PRAWN had bled from both nostrils.
JIANGXI STAMINA, JOY MASTER and JIMMU were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (759) PERIDOT HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 2000 m

STRONG ALLIANCE began awkwardly.
DAILY CHARM began awkwardly and then despite being ridden along in the early stages failed to muster speed.
Making the turn after passing the winning post on the first occasion, STRONG ALLIANCE got its head up on a number of occasions when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed behind CLEMENT LEGEND.
Passing the 1800 Metres, KUNGFUMASTER PANDA was awkwardly placed behind MAGNETISM which was steadied to obtain cover behind EZRA.
Approaching the 1700 Metres, TAILOR MADE was left racing wide and without cover and passing the 1200 Metres was allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead.
Passing the 400 Metres, NUREMBERG was directed to the inside of STRONG ALLIANCE after being awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that he was asked to have NUREMBERG racing where it was comfortable. He said prior to the race he believed that NUREMBERG would be able to show sufficient speed to obtain a forward position, however, it was left to him to decide on where the horse should be ridden depending on the speed that it showed in the early stages. He said he was aware that NUREMBERG had finished off the race well at its last start when ridden from a rearward position, however, given the make-up of today’s race, he was of the belief that NUREMBERG would possess sufficient speed to be able to take up a more forward position. He said he rode his mount along for some distance in the early stages in an endeavour to take up a forward position, however, in his opinion, NUREMBERG was not showing sufficient speed to be able to clear runners to its inside without him having to make a considerable amount of use of his horse. He added, given the manner in which NUREMBERG was finishing off the race at its most recent start from back in the field, he elected to steady his mount passing the winning post on the first occasion and obtain cover behind PLAY WISE rather than continue to ride the horse along to take up a forward position. He said NUREMBERG was not suited by the slow tempo of the race when ridden back in the field and because of this was not able to finish off the race. Mr A S Cruz, trainer of NUREMBERG, confirmed that he had not issued any explicit instructions on where the horse should be ridden in today’s race, but was of the belief that if the horse began well and showed early speed, then it would be ridden in a forward position, however, if it was not to begin well, he was equally comfortable for the horse to be ridden quietly given the manner in which it finished off its last race. He said after viewing the race, he was satisfied that Jockey Moreira had made sufficient endeavours to obtain a forward position in the early stages. A veterinary inspection of NUREMBERG immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, A Badel stated that he was asked to ride MCMUNIGAL patiently from a wide barrier as the connections were concerned that were MCMUNIGAL to be ridden to obtain a forward position, the horse may be left racing wide and without cover if horses which were better drawn than MCMUNIGAL were able to secure a forward position. He said it was therefore believed to be in the best interests of MCMUNIGAL for the horse to be steadied in the early stages and obtain a position close to the rail to avoid having to cover unnecessary ground. Mr D E Ferraris, trainer of MCMUNIGAL, confirmed that he wished for MCMUNIGAL to be ridden quietly from a wide barrier. He said at its last start when the horse was ridden along to go forward from a similar draw, it was required to travel wide and without cover and was not able to finish off the race as well as anticipated. He said as he wished to avoid the same situation occurring in today’s race, it was felt the best option for MCMUNIGAL was for the horse to be ridden patiently in the early stages. A veterinary inspection of MCMUNIGAL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of BULLISH GLORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
NUREMBERG, SWOT TROOPERS WIND and TAILOR MADE were sent for sampling.

Passing the 500 Metres, SPICY SO GOOD was awkwardly placed behind NEXTMODEL.

MAN UP began awkwardly, shifted out and inconvenienced ZACIAN.
IRON KING began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped VICTORY MORE which in turn shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of GLUCK RACER which became unbalanced and shifted out, resulting in MOST WELCOME momentarily racing in restricted room inside WHO LOVES THE ACE.
R Maia (MARADO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of DRAGON BABY, causing that horse to be checked when unnecessarily crowded for room inside MARADO. R Maia was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Saturday, 26 June 2021 and to expire on Friday, 2 July 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Jockey Maia was fined $7,500.
After the 1100 Metres, HAPPY DAILY, which was travelling keenly, momentarily raced in restricted room inside THE JOLLY which was awkwardly placed inside the heels of MAN UP.
In the early stages, FLYING PHOTOS raced with its head on the side and lay in.
When being steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier in the early stages, IRON KING travelled keenly. IRON KING continued to travel very keenly for some distance in the early and middle stages and made the turn near the 800 Metres awkwardly and was then left racing wide and without cover passing the 800 Metres.
THE JOLLY made the turn near the 850 Metres awkwardly.
Approaching the 300 Metres, GLUCK RACER raced tight inside MOST WELCOME (A Hamelin) which lay in under pressure. GLUCK RACER continued to race tight inside MOST WELCOME as that horse continued to lay in which resulted in GLUCK RACER and MOST WELCOME making contact on a number of occasions between the 300 Metres and until passing the 100 Metres, causing both horses to become unbalanced. A Hamelin was told that whilst the Stewards accepted that MOST WELCOME had been difficult to ride at this stage due to laying in, nonetheless he must ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground and making unnecessary contact with other horses.
At the 75 Metres, THIS IS CHARISMA was struck over the nose by the whip of B Shinn (WHO LOVES THE ACE).
In the Straight, IRON KING lay out under pressure and shifted ground on a number of occasions.
Throughout the race, VICTORY MORE travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, A Badel stated that, from barrier 12, he was asked to ride GLUCK RACER in a forward position if it began well. He said it was felt that there would be an opportunity for the horse to be ridden positively in the early stages without having to be made too much use of given that it was wearing blinkers for the first occasion today. He said after beginning well, GLUCK RACER was able to obtain a forward position without having to be ridden along. He said he did give consideration to allowing MOST WELCOME, which was racing to GLUCK RACER’s outside, to take the lead and provide his mount with cover, however, when MOST WELCOME did not continue on into the lead, he was comfortable to allow GLUCK RACER to maintain a position to that horse’s inside. He said given that GLUCK RACER was not comfortable in the Home Straight when racing tight inside MOST WELCOME, he believed that the horse finished off the race well given the circumstances.
A veterinary inspection of DRAGON BABY immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, DRAGON BABY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of THE JOLLY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GLUCK RACER, MARADO and ALL BEAUTY were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (762) THE PREMIER PLATE (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Group Three 1800 m

FAST MOST FURIOUS, TSAR and CHARITY FUN were all steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
Passing the 350 Metres, FAST MOST FURIOUS was shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running.
Near the 300 Metres, PLAYA DEL PUENTE was momentarily steadied away from the heels of FAST MOST FURIOUS when racing in restricted room between that horse and COLUMBUS COUNTY, both of which shifted ground.
Near the 150 Metres, CHARITY FUN raced tight inside the heels of BUTTERFIELD which got its head on the side and lay in.
Approaching the 100 Metres, A Badel (FAST MOST FURIOUS) dropped his whip. As this was the 4th occasion this season that A Badel was reported to have dropped his whip in races, he was fined the sum of $5,000.
At the 50 Metres, FAST MOST FURIOUS and COLUMBUS COUNTY bumped.
When questioned, H W Lai (RELIABLE TEAM) said prior to the race he was asked to take up a forward position outside or behind the anticipated leader TIME WARP. He said it was explained to him that RELIABLE TEAM is one-paced and therefore to ensure that the horse was not left flat-footed in the race. He said given that RELIABLE TEAM does not possess a good turn of foot and as the horse was carrying a very light weight, he commenced to ride his mount along passing the 600 Metres to see whether he would be able to establish a break over SOUTHERN LEGEND which he considered to be the best chance in the race and having regard to that horse being required to carry a much heavier weight. He added whilst this resulted in RELIABLE TEAM having to make a more sustained run than is usually the case, he believed that riding the horse in this manner provided RELIABLE TEAM with the best opportunity to be competitive at the end of the race.
A veterinary inspection of TSAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
COLUMBUS COUNTY, SOUTHERN LEGEND and RELIABLE TEAM were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (763) OPAL HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1600 m

In the early stages, EL JEFE was also shifted across behind runners.
Passing the 1200 Metres, SUPER ELEGANCE was steadied away from the heels of WISDOM PATCH (R Maia) which shifted in when not properly clear. After the 1100 Metres, CHARGE ON was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 900 Metres, EL JEFE and NEW FUTURE raced tight. EL JEFE (Z Purton) was then left racing wide and without cover near the 850 Metres. After the race, Z Purton stated that having to race very wide and at times without cover resulted in EL JEFE then not being able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of EL JEFE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Passing the 700 Metres, EL JEFE raced tight outside NEW FUTURE which in turn raced tight outside PRIME STAR which shifted to the outside of AMAZING BOY. PRIME STAR was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of WISDOM PATCH passing the 600 Metres.

VOYAGE WARRIOR shifted out at the start and bumped BUDDIES.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, MIGHTY GIANT was slow to muster speed.
Approaching and passing the 800 Metres, CHAMPION’S WAY commenced to race very keenly and was checked away from the heels of RATTAN which itself was awkwardly placed behind JOLLY BANNER which got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of VOYAGE WARRIOR as that horse obtained cover behind BUDDIES.
After the 700 Metres, NOT USUAL TALENT was left racing wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of NOT USUAL TALENT immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, NOT USUAL TALENT will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Passing the 500 Metres, MIGHTY GIANT was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HEALTHY HAPPY when being shifted to the outside of that horse.
Passing the 150 Metres, NOT USUAL TALENT and VOYAGE WARRIOR raced tight.
Approaching the 100 Metres, SKY DARCI got its head on the side and lay in.
M F Poon (LUCKY PATCH) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that over the concluding stages he permitted his mount to shift out, resulting in RATTAN being checked when unnecessarily crowded for room between LUCKY PATCH and SKY DARCI. M F Poon was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 4 July 2021 and to expire on Thursday, 8 July 2021 which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Poon’s good race riding record.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that from barrier 2, it was hoped that SKY DARCI would be able to obtain a position behind midfield. He said however despite being ridden along in the early stages, SKY DARCI, which was dropping back in distance, failed to muster sufficient speed despite being ridden along which resulted in the horse racing towards the rear of the field in the early and middle stages.
A veterinary inspection of HEALTHY HAPPY immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm and an endoscopic examination also showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HEALTHY HAPPY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

VILLA FIONN and TORNADO TWIST began only fairly.
BEAUTY AMIGO began awkwardly and then after being ridden along for some distance in the early stages to obtain a forward position travelled keenly in the lead in the middle stages.
Shortly after the start, DUBLIN STAR raced tight outside the heels of BEAUTY SPIRIT.
From wide barriers, OUR CLASS ACT and TIANCHI MONSTER were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
MOMENTUM GALAXY had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and passing the 200 Metres raced tight between BEAUTY AMIGO and MIG ENERGY when improving into tight running between those horses.
Throughout the race, ELIGERE travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HURRY HURRY GAIN, Z Purton stated that the horse was able to obtain a forward position in the early stages without having to be used up to do so. He said HURRY HURRY GAIN travelled well until near the 600 Metres at which stage ELIGERE improved forward of HURRY HURRY GAIN. He said at this stage, despite being ridden along, HURRY HURRY GAIN was not able to quicken with ELIGERE and HURRY HURRY GAIN then came under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn. He added he continued to ride his mount along in the early part of the Straight, however, HURRY HURRY GAIN did not respond to his riding and over the latter stages of the race gave ground noticeably to finish at the rear of the field. He said, in his opinion, HURRY HURRY GAIN had come to the end of its initial racing campaign. Mr F C Lor, trainer of HURRY HURRY GAIN, confirmed that after its disappointing run, it is his intention to spell the horse. A veterinary inspection of HURRY HURRY GAIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When being ridden along shortly after the start, LUCKY EXPRESS shifted out towards the heels of SUPER OASIS.
From a wide barrier, THE CROWN was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 800 Metres, AMAZING ONE PLUS was crowded for room inside SUNNY BOY which was bumped and taken in by BEAUTY SMILE which raced tight inside the heels of WINNING METHOD which shifted in before being directed back out to relieve the tightening to the inside.
In the early part of the Straight, BEAUTY SMILE lay out under pressure.
Near the 350 Metres, the whip of H Bentley (E STAR) was knocked from his grasp by the whip of K Teetan (SUNNY BOY).
Near the 250 Metres, AMAZING ONE PLUS was awkwardly placed outside the heels of BEAUTY SMILE which continued to lay out. SUNNY BOY, which was following AMAZING ONE PLUS, was directed out away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
LUCKY EXPRESS had difficulty obtaining clear running from passing the 200 Metres until approaching the 100 Metres.
After the race, M F Poon explained that he was asked to obtain a midfield position on WINNING METHOD if possible. He said after shifting WINNING METHOD across with a view to obtaining a position behind the speed, the horse was left racing very wide and without cover after the 1200 Metres and for this reason he allowed his mount to improve after the 1000 Metres to obtain a position closer to the rail and avoid covering unnecessary ground.
A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY SMILE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of THE CROWN immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, THE CROWN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Passing the 100 Metres. MEANINGFUL STAR and PARTY EVERYDAY bumped.
Near the 75 Metres, SUPER WINNER shifted out and brushed SUPER TEN.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that in pre-race discussions with the connections of SUPER WINNER, it was noted that no horse had been able to be successful leading at today’s meeting other than earlier in the day in a distance race. He said therefore he was told to obtain a forward position on SUPER WINNER, but if another horse was intent on leading, he should obtain a trailing position behind that horse as SUPER WINNER had finished off a race strongly when successful earlier in the season when ridden in a trailing position. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode SUPER WINNER positively in the early stages, but after travelling a short distance he observed that BABY was being ridden along from a wide barrier to also take up a forward position. He said having regard to his instructions and as the rider of BABY was intent on leading, he elected to allow that horse to cross SUPER WINNER and obtain the position behind that horse. He added after obtaining the lead BABY steadied the tempo of the race which resulted in SUPER WINNER being awkwardly placed behind that horse in the middle stages. He said after having some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight SUPER WINNER then finished off the race strongly over the latter stages.
A veterinary inspection of HEZA BEAUTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WAR WEAPON, MALDIVES and GOLDEN LINK were sent for sampling.
