Passing the 700 Metres, DIAMOND STAR became unbalanced when improving into tight running inside OH BRAVO.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of INCREDIBLE, M L Yeung stated that the horse did not travel as well today in the middle stages as it had previously when ridden by him. He said after obtaining a trailing position behind the lead near the 900 Metres, INCREDIBLE came under pressure rounding the Home Turn and did not quicken in the early part of the Straight as it did when racing well in recent starts. He said INCREDIBLE stayed on one-paced approaching and passing the 300 Metres but then gave ground noticeably over the concluding stages. A veterinary inspection of INCREDIBLE immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. The performance of INCREDIBLE, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, INCREDIBLE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the performance of WAH MAY LUCK, J Moreira stated that he was not able to offer any reason for the horse’s failure to close off the race. He said WAH MAY LUCK commenced to travel keenly after the 1000 Metres due to the moderate tempo which resulted in the horse being awkwardly placed close to the heels of RIGHTEOUS WIN approaching the 900 Metres and having to be steadied away from the heels of that horse near the 850 Metres. He said he was able to shift away from the heels of RIGHTEOUS WIN near the 800 Metres to follow LEGEND GOES and then when shifted to the outside of that horse after the 500 Metres WAH MAY LUCK immediately came under pressure. He added WAH MAY LUCK did not respond to his riding in the Straight and was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of WAH MAY LUCK immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of OH BRAVO and CENTENARY IBIS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

LOCKHEED shifted in at the start and bumped READY TO WIN.
STAR BRITE began awkwardly and from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Shortly after the start, CIRCUIT STELLAR and ELIGERE bumped.
When being steadied in the early stages to obtain cover, READY TO WIN was crowded for room approaching the 1100 Metres between CIRCUIT STELLAR which was awkwardly placed outside ELIGERE and LOCKHEED which shifted in marginally.
After the 900 Metres, THE CROWN got its head up when travelling keenly.
After the 800 Metres, ELIGERE travelled keenly and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of EXCELLENT DADDY.
STAR BRITE was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 300 Metres raced in restricted room inside GRACYLOVE which shifted in.
Approaching the 200 Metres, READY TO WIN was held up for clear running behind THE CROWN and passing the 200 Metres was shifted to the inside of CIRCUIT STELLAR to obtain clear running. Then passing the 100 Metres, READY TO WIN was shifted to the inside of EXCELLENT DADDY after being awkwardly placed behind that horse.
Passing the 200 Metres, THE CROWN got its head on the side and lay out under pressure.
Passing the 150 Metres, ELIGERE was momentarily crowded for room between LOCKHEED and THE CROWN, both of which shifted minimal ground.
When questioned, A Badel stated that the connections of LOCKHEED were of the opinion that the horse did not finish off the race strongly in its recent start when ridden in the lead. He said for this reason, from a wide barrier, he was asked to steady LOCKHEED in the early stages and ride the horse more conservatively in the hope that it would finish off the race better than it did on that occasion. He said in accordance with his instructions he steadied LOCKHEED in the early stages and was able to obtain a position with cover prior to the 1000 Metres which resulted in the horse racing just worse than midfield. He said due to the moderate tempo of the race, LOCKHEED was then not able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of LOCKHEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, C L Chau stated that he was asked to obtain a forward position on EXCELLENT DADDY and it was hoped that he may be able to cross runners to his inside and after shifting across to race outside the anticipated leader LUCKY WITH YOU steady his mount to allow another runner to improve around EXCELLENT DADDY and provide his mount with cover. He said after riding his mount along in the early stages to obtain a forward position, it appeared to him that GALLANT EXPRESS was looking to obtain the position behind the leader LUCKY WITH YOU and in front of GRACYLOVE which would have allowed EXCELLENT DADDY the opportunity to race one horse off the rail. He said he gained the impression that the rider of GALLANT EXPRESS was looking to obtain cover as he had a number of looks to his inside after the 1100 Metres. He said however that when the pace of the race slowed, GALLANT EXPRESS remained racing in a position one horse away from the rail outside LUCKY WITH YOU which resulted in EXCELLENT DADDY being left racing in a three wide position and without cover. He added after the 900 Metres although the race was being run at only a fair tempo, he believed he would have had to make some use of his mount to improve forward of GALLANT EXPRESS to cross that runner and as EXCELLENT DADDY was travelling comfortably, he elected to have the horse remain balanced outside GALLANT EXPRESS which resulted in EXCELLENT DADDY continuing to race in a three wide position and without cover throughout.
LUCKY WITH YOU and GALLANT EXPRESS were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (307) CHERRY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1400 m

At the 400 Metres, TSAR was momentarily crowded for room between BLAZE WARRIOR which shifted in and GOOD LUCK FRIEND which, when shifting to the outside of SEATTLE CHOICE to obtain clear running, was then shifted out away from the heels of that horse which drifted out under pressure. After this, GOOD LUCK FRIEND raced tight between BLAZE WARRIOR and SEATTLE CHOICE which continued to shift out marginally.
After the 150 Metres, BLAZE WARRIOR was directed out to relieve the crowding to GOOD LUCK FRIEND to its inside.
Near the 50 Metres, GOOD LUCK FRIEND was eased away from the heels of BLAZE WARRIOR (J Moreira) which shifted in. J Moreira was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
A veterinary inspection of TSAR and ROMAN TURBO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

MIGHTY VALOR stumbled at the start and then lost ground when crowded for room between KINDA COOL which shifted out and NOTHING IMPOSSIBLE which shifted in after being bumped by KOWLOON GREAT which shifted in after being bumped by NEVER TOO SOON. This resulted in MIGHTY VALOR being positioned at the rear of the field in the early stages. MIGHTY VALOR then commenced to travel keenly and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed behind KINDA COOL approaching and passing the 1200 Metres. MIGHTY VALOR was then allowed to improve around KINDA COOL and into a more forward position, however, raced wide and without cover throughout.
Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, AMAZING CHOCOLATE failed to muster speed.
ENNEA FORTUNE got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied in the early stages to obtain cover from a wide barrier.
Near the 1150 Metres, KOWLOON GREAT was shifted in away from the heels of ZONE D.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, COBHFIELD got its head up when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed inside the heels of HORSESAIN BOLT. After this, COBHFIELD continued to travel keenly and shifted out away from the heels of HORSESAIN BOLT making the turn near the 900 Metres. COBHFIELD was shifted out away from the heels of MIGHTY VALOR approaching the 700 Metres when continuing to prove very difficult to settle and then gave ground in the Straight. The performance of COBHFIELD, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, COBHFIELD will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of COBHFIELD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Approaching the 300 Metres, ZOOM BOOM was shifted out away from the heels of MIGHTY VALOR which was giving ground.
Near the 250 Metres, MIGHTY VALOR, which was continuing to give ground, was shifted in away from the heels of ZOOM BOOM and in doing so inconvenienced KOWLOON GREAT.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident occurred which cast sufficient doubt on whether OSCAR GLORY (V Borges) should be declared the second placegetter of the race. Subsequently, B Shinn, the rider of HORSESAIN BOLT, third placegetter, lodged a protest/objection against OSCAR GLORY being declared the second placegetter alleging interference to his mount over the final 200 Metres. After taking evidence from both parties and after viewing the videos, it was established that as HORSESAIN BOLT attempted to improve to the outside of OSCAR GLORY from just prior to the 200 Metres until passing the 150 Metres, OSCAR GLORY shifted out, resulting in HORSESAIN BOLT being taken out and being inconvenienced and which resulted in HORSESAIN BOLT being directed to the inside of OSCAR GLORY at about the 125 Metres. As HORSESAIN BOLT was attempting to improve to the inside of OSCAR GLORY, that horse was corrected by its rider which resulted in HORSESAIN BOLT having to be directed in away from the heels of OSCAR GLORY and being hampered. After considering the manner in which both horses finished off the race over about the final 100 Metres after HORSESAIN BOLT was able to establish clear and unimpeded running to the inside of OSCAR GLORY and the half-length margin between those horses at the end of the race, the Stewards could not be satisfied to the requisite degree that HORSESAIN BOLT would have finished in front of OSCAR GLORY if not for the interference and accordingly, the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. At a subsequent inquiry, V Borges pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that for some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when riding it along, resulting in HORSESAIN BOLT being unnecessarily inconvenienced and near the 150 Metres being shifted to the inside of OSCAR GLORY after losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. V Borges was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 6 February 2022 and to expire on Thursday, 10 February 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Borges’ good race riding record.
A veterinary inspection of KINDA COOL and MIGHTY VALOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ZONE D, NAVAS TWO and OSCAR GLORY were sent for sampling.

General

1. 29 December 2021 Sha Tin Racemeeting – Race 6 (295)

The Stewards today questioned H T Mo regarding his riding of EIGHT TRIGRAMS in the early stages of this race. Jockey Mo stated that he was instructed to begin positively on EIGHT TRIGRAMS and then ride the horse where it was comfortable. He said it was not anticipated that EIGHT TRIGRAMS would have sufficient speed to lead, however, it was felt that the horse would be able to obtain a forward position without having to be ridden along. He said in accordance with his instructions he began positively on EIGHT TRIGRAMS and when FIERY DIAMOND was being ridden along to obtain a forward position inside EIGHT TRIGRAMS, he allowed that horse to continue to improve its position forward of EIGHT TRIGRAMS in the early stages. He said EIGHT TRIGRAMS was not showing as much early speed as anticipated which resulted in EVERYONE’S VICTORY shifting in in front of EIGHT TRIGRAMS near the 1000 Metres and follow FIERY DIAMOND. He added when racing behind other runners, EIGHT TRIGRAMS appeared to resent the kickback which made it more difficult for him to hold his position in the early and middle stages and which resulted in EIGHT TRIGRAMS racing behind midfield. H T Mo was advised that his riding of EIGHT TRIGRAMS in the early stages had come under notice as, in the opinion of the Stewards, it was available for him to shift across to follow FIERY DIAMOND which would have afforded EIGHT TRIGRAMS the opportunity to race in a more prominent position and would not have allowed EVERYONE’S VICTORY to shift in to occupy that position. He was told to ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner so as to comply with his instructions and to ensure that his riding is not open to query.
