After the 100 Metres, REGENT GLORY was steadied after racing in restricted room between LUCKY ARCHANGEL which initially shifted out and FUN N GLORY which shifted in marginally.
When questioned, K C Leung stated that in pre-race discussions with connections it was felt that as SWEET DIAMOND had trialed only fairly in the lead up to today’s race, if SWEET DIAMOND were to be ridden along in the early stages to obtain a forward position, the horse may not show sufficient speed to clear runners and therefore may be left racing wide and without cover. He said therefore from barrier 9 he was asked to shift the horse across behind runners and obtain cover to prevent it from having to cover unnecessary ground. He said after shifting across to race behind EASY SNIP in the early stages, SWEET DIAMOND was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse passing the 1000 Metres. He said SWEET DIAMOND commenced to travel keenly and near the 750 Metres was steadied away from the heels of EASY SNIP. He said when he took hold of SWEET DIAMOND, the horse made an abnormal breathing noise, however, did not do so again for the remainder of the race. He added that he was able to shift SWEET DIAMOND out to obtain clear running in the early part of the Straight after which the horse finished off the race only fairly. A veterinary inspection of SWEET DIAMOND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, L Hewitson stated that with the blinkers being removed from DOUBLE SHOW today, he was instructed to ride the horse from off the speed in the hope that it would be able to finish the race off strongly. A veterinary inspection of DOUBLE SHOW immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Race:5 (41) OI MAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1400 m

KARUIZAWA was withdrawn on 23.9.22 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter SEATOSKY (M F Poon). HAPPY LAND was withdrawn on 24.9.22 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (heart irregularity). THE HULK was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever). Before being allowed to race again, KARUIZAWA and THE HULK will be subjected to an official veterinary examination whilst HAPPY LAND will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
QUORUM began awkwardly and after travelling a short distance was crowded for room between SEATOSKY and JACK WIN, both of which shifted ground.
STUNNING IMPACT shifted out at the start and bumped ALL IS GOOD, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
GENERAL WINNER shifted in at the start and bumped HAPPY DAILY. HAPPY DAILY was then tightened for room between GENERAL WINNER and FIRE BALL which became unbalanced as a result of being bumped by HAPPY DAILY. When FIRE BALL was bumped, it shifted in and crowded GREAT BRILLIANT a short distance after the start. After this, from the outside barriers, HAPPY DAILY and GENERAL WINNER together with STAR CONTACT were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
At the entrance to the Straight, QUORUM was awkwardly placed when disappointed for running between STUNNING IMPACT and CIRCUIT MIGHTY. QUORUM was then shifted out away from the heels of STUNNING IMPACT after the 300 Metres.
HAPPY DAILY was held up for clear running from approaching the 300 Metres until passing the 250 Metres.
L Ferraris (ALL IS GOOD) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching and passing the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of HAPPY DAILY, causing that horse to be hampered when unnecessarily crowded for room and taken in across the rightful running of CIRCUIT MIGHTY which had to be checked. In the circumstances, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for L Ferraris’ licence to ride in races to be suspended for a period to commence on Wednesday, 19 October 2022 and to expire on Monday, 24 October 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Ferraris’ good race riding record. In this incident, STUNNING IMPACT was bumped on the hindquarters by CIRCUIT MIGHTY.
A veterinary inspection of ROYAL CAMPBELL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
STUNNING IMPACT, STAR CONTACT and HAPPY DAILY were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (42) FU TAI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1000 m

FLYING DRAGON was slow to begin. As FLYING DRAGON was being ridden along in an attempt to make up lost ground shortly after the start, it was checked away from the heels of FLYING SEASON (S De Sousa) which shifted out after being bumped by JOYFUL WIN on jumping. S De Sousa was advised that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, nonetheless he must make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground.
LUCKY QUALITY lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and then was bumped on the hindquarters by SMOKEY BEAR which shifted out.
SOLAR WINDS bumped the outside of its barrier stall on jumping and began only fairly.

FLYING SEASON travelled keenly in the early stages.
After the 800 Metres, SOLAR WINDS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SUPER KING which shifted in after being bumped by JOYFUL WIN which also shifted ground after bumping the hindquarters of KA YING SPIRIT. SOLAR WINDS then commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of SUPER KING near the 750 Metres.
The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the prima facie view that an incident occurred over about the final 150 Metres which cast doubt on whether SUMMIT CHEERS (Apprentice Y L Chung) should be declared the 3rd placegetter. As the Stewards were of the opinion that whilst SUMMIT CHEERS shifted in over about the final 150 Metres and hampered METRO WARRIOR (Z Purton), which finished 6th, given the manner in which the two horses were finishing the race off and the margin between the horses at the end of the race, they were not satisfied that METRO WARRIOR would have finished in front of SUMMIT CHEERS and therefore did not proceed to a formal protest/objection hearing. Z Purton also did not lodge a protest/objection on behalf of the connections of METRO WARRIOR in respect of this incident. Subsequently, Apprentice Chung was severely reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a far greater effort than he did on this occasion to prevent his mounts from shifting ground. When METRO WARRIOR was taken in, ADIOS was tightened for room outside JOYFUL WIN passing the winning post.
The Stewards considered a protest/objection lodged by C Wong, the rider of FLYING DRAGON, 2nd placegetter, against JOYFUL WIN (L Hewitson), the winner of the race, alleging interference near the 150 Metres. After taking evidence from all parties and after viewing the videos, the Stewards found that passing the 300 Metres FLYING DRAGON was shifted in in an attempt to obtain running between SMOKEY BEAR and JOYFUL WIN. As FLYING DRAGON was attempting to improve into this run, JOYFUL WIN shifted out near the 150 Metres, resulting in FLYING DRAGON having to be checked when disappointed for running and having to be shifted to the inside of JOYFUL WIN. As the Stewards were satisfied that FLYING DRAGON had not established running between SMOKEY BEAR and JOYFUL WIN prior to that horse shifting out, they overruled the protest/objection and declared weighed-in on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that FLYING DRAGON had not established running, nonetheless L Hewitson was reprimanded and told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 100 Metres, CLASSIC POSH raced in restricted room between LUCKY QUALITY and SOLAR WINDS which shifted in. Then passing the 50 Metres, CLASSIC POSH was eased away from the heels of SOLAR WINDS.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on KA YING SPIRIT at the request of Trainer C S Shum. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, KA YING SPIRIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SUMMIT CHEERS, JOYFUL WIN and FLYING DRAGON were sent for sampling.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of YOUTHFUL DEAL, Z Purton stated that his mount became very stirred up in the Parade Ring prior to the race which he believed had a bearing on the horse’s failure to finish the race off in the Straight. He said after obtaining the lead in the early stages, YOUTHFUL DEAL was able to travel comfortably which he felt provided the horse with the opportunity to finish the race off better than it did. He said in the early part of the Straight YOUTHFUL DEAL came under pressure and then was very disappointing in the manner in which it weakened over the concluding stages, particularly given that the first three placegetters in the race were also ridden in a forward position similar to YOUTHFUL DEAL. A veterinary inspection of YOUTHFUL DEAL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of YOUTHFUL DEAL, favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, YOUTHFUL DEAL will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of FORTUNE TURBO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

At the 150 Metres, TOTAL POWER became unbalanced when racing tight inside WINNING DRAGON which shifted in marginally before being directed out to relieve the crowding to TOTAL POWER.
ENCOUNTERED lay in over the concluding stages.
When questioned regarding his riding out of POWERFUL WINGS, 3rd placegetter, over the concluding stages, S De Sousa stated that over about the final 100 Metres POWERFUL WINGS lay in under pressure. He said he continued to ride the horse along as there was room between his mount and LOOKING GREAT which was racing in advance of POWERFUL WINGS. He said close to the finishing line POWERFUL WINGS continued to shift in and therefore he used the whip down the shoulder of the horse in an attempt to straighten POWERFUL WINGS. He said as POWERFUL WINGS was continuing to lay in towards LOOKING GREAT, he corrected his mount to ensure that it did not shift in and make unnecessary contact with LOOKING GREAT. Having considered Jockey De Sousa’s evidence and having viewed the videos, the Stewards took no further action.
A veterinary inspection of SECRET VISION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
