Race:1 (65) HEUNG YIP HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1000 m

SEIZING THE MOMENT began only fairly.
From a wide barrier, EQUALETTA BLITZ was steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages.
From the outside barrier, HEROIC MASTER was steadied shortly after the start, then lay out in the early and middle stages and travelled wide and without cover for the majority of the race. HEROIC MASTER continued to lay out rounding the Home Turn.
H N Wong (SUPER AXIOM) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in whilst riding it along, thereby tightening the running of PING HAI GALAXY which in turn was taken in across the rightful running of SEIZING THE MOMENT which was checked. H N Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 19 October 2022 and to expire on Monday, 24 October 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
When questioned regarding the performance of PING HAI GALAXY, the winner of tonight’s race, compared to its first up run, Trainer J Size stated that at its first up run the horse was able to obtain a forward position in the early stages without having to be ridden along, however, it took PING HAI GALAXY some time to be able to clear a number of runners to its inside and this resulted in the horse racing wide until after entering the Back Straight. He said because of this, in his opinion, PING HAI GALAXY was not able to travel comfortably in the middle stages and then did not finish the race off. He said having drawn barrier 1 tonight, PING HAI GALAXY was able to race on the rail in the early and middle stages behind the leader and he was of the opinion that this greatly benefited PING HAI GALAXY in relaxing and then being able to close the race off strongly.
A veterinary inspection of EQUALETTA BLITZ immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
EQUALETTA BLITZ, PING HAI GALAXY and SEIZING THE MOMENT were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (66) ISLAND HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 5 1200 m

From a wide barrier, ZACIAN was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
FLYING ON THE TURF made the turn approaching and passing the 1000 Metres awkwardly and shifted out towards the heels of ISLAND SURPRISE which at this time was racing tight inside HEARTY WISH which in turn was racing inside SHENRON. Then near the 950 Metres, FLYING ON THE TURF shifted out and clipped the heels of ISLAND SURPRISE which bumped HEARTY WISH which in turn got its head up when being steadied as a result of racing tight inside SHENRON (R Maia). R Maia was advised that whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, principally the manner in which FLYING ON THE TURF made the turn, nonetheless he was told to ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for his fellow riders in similar circumstances. After this incident, HEARTY WISH continued to travel keenly and got its head up when being steadied as SHENRON shifted in when not properly clear. R Maia was reprimanded and told to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground in similar circumstances. After this, FLYING ON THE TURF was left racing wide and without cover near the 800 Metres.
Passing the 250 Metres, SUNNY AND GOLD was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLYING ON THE TURF when being shifted to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running.
Passing the 100 Metres, FLYING ON THE TURF was shifted out away from the heels of HEARTY WISH.
After the race, A Hamelin stated that it was intended for the winner SUNNY AND GOLD to be ridden in a more forward position tonight, however, due to the manner in which the horse began and the circumstances of the race in the early stages, SUNNY AND GOLD raced further back in the field than had been intended.
Also after the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on MOONLUCK at the request of Trainer T P Yung. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
A veterinary inspection of DIAMOND SOARS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SUNNY DELIGHT shifted in at the start and bumped the hindquarters of MORE THAN ENOUGH. After this, from a wide barrier, SUNNY DELIGHT was shifted across behind runners.
Approaching the 1300 Metres, BIG TWO and GLORIOUS LOVER bumped, resulting in GLORIOUS LOVER becoming unbalanced. After this, GLORIOUS LOVER (Z Purton) travelled wide and without cover and then in the Straight gave ground and finished tailed out. After the race, Z Purton reported that GLORIOUS LOVER came off the bridle at the 1200 Metres and from that point onwards was reluctant to maintain its position. He added that he had to commence riding his mount along at the 800 Metres in an attempt to hold its position, however, despite being ridden along, GLORIOUS LOVER would not respond and by the 600 Metres was already a well beaten horse. A veterinary inspection of GLORIOUS LOVER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GLORIOUS LOVER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GLORIOUS LOVER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the 900 Metres, BABY was taken wider by JADE PHOENIX which shifted out from behind MORE THAN ENOUGH. Then passing the 500 Metres, BABY raced tight outside AMIGOS GIGGLE which shifted out to improve.
Passing the 250 Metres, JADE PHOENIX was directed to the inside of MORE THAN ENOUGH.
When questioned, L Ferraris stated that he was instructed to lead on MORE THAN ENOUGH and to have the horse relaxed as best as possible throughout the race. He said after riding MORE THAN ENOUGH along in the early stages to obtain the lead, he was able to steady the tempo in the middle stages. He said however that after the 800 Metres MORE THAN ENOUGH commenced to travel strongly and as he was told not to steady his mount and break its momentum, he allowed the horse to continue on whilst still attempting to rate the horse as best as possible in the lead.
A veterinary inspection of BIG TWO and BABY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
NOBLE STEED and AMIGOS GIGGLE were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (68) SHUM WAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1650 m

GOLDEN FOUR began only fairly and then was bumped by MEDIC ELITE which was taken in by BEST FOR YOU which got its head up and shifted in when being steadied to obtain cover from a wide barrier.

Approaching the 1100 Metres, PAKISTAN ZINDABAD travelled keenly and raced close to the heels of SPEED FORCE. Then passing the 650 Metres, PAKISTAN ZINDABAD raced tight outside SPEED FORCE which shifted out from behind MISTER ARM to follow MEDIC ELITE. This resulted in PAKISTAN ZINDABAD racing wide and without cover.
MISTER ARM travelled wide and without cover until near the 1000 Metres at which time CIRCUIT SPIRITANTO was left racing wide and without cover.
Rounding the Home Turn, BEST FOR YOU lost ground after becoming unbalanced as a result of being momentarily crowded for room inside the hindquarters of GOLDEN FOUR which at this time lay in towards the heels of FELIX THE KING.
Approaching the 200 Metres, PASSING FASHION briefly raced in restricted room inside SPEED FORCE when improving to the outside of the heels of MEDIC ELITE.
Passing the 200 Metres, GOLDEN FOUR was shifted out away from the heels of MISTER ARM to continue improving.
V Borges, the rider of the 5th placegetter, SPEED FORCE, was told that whilst his mount achieved its best placing in the race, he was severely reprimanded for failing to ride his mount out over the concluding stages. He was advised that had SPEED FORCE finished behind GOLDEN FOUR, the 6th placegetter, rather than beating that horse by a nose, he would have faced a charge for having failed to ride his mounts out all the way to the end of the race.
When questioned regarding THE JOLLY being ridden in the lead tonight, L Hewitson stated that stepping up to the 1650 Metres at Happy Valley for tonight’s race for the first time, it was intended to take advantage of the horse’s inside barrier and lead the race if circumstances permitted. He said THE JOLLY began well and he was able to obtain the lead without having to make any use of his mount in the early stages to do so.
After the race, Z Purton reported that whilst PAKISTAN ZINDABAD did not finish the race off as strongly as anticipated, he was of the view that the horse would benefit from being stepped up in distance at its future starts. A veterinary inspection of PAKISTAN ZINDABAD immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, PAKISTAN ZINDABAD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of MISTER ARM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
PAKISTAN ZINDABAD, PASSING FASHION and CIRCUIT SPIRITANTO were sent for sampling.

Passing the 1100 Metres, ENCORE got its head up and travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover behind EUROMISSILE.
At the 250 Metres, FORTUNE MASTER brushed the running rail and was shifted out from behind WINS ALL after being disappointed for running inside that horse which was shifted to the inside of HANDSOME GUYS in an attempt to obtain clear running. When HANDSOME GUYS shifted in under pressure, this resulted in WINS ALL being held up for clear running until approaching the 200 Metres. After being disappointed for running, FORTUNE MASTER was then shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running.
In the Straight, RAGING BLAZE lay in under pressure.
After the race, A Hamelin stated that it was hoped that CIGAR BUDDIES would be able to cross runners to its inside and lead the race. He said HANDSOME GUYS, which was drawn more favourably than CIGAR BUDDIES, showed more speed in the early stages and for this reason CIGAR BUDDIES was required to race outside that horse in the early and middle stages. He said when unable to lead the race outright, CIGAR BUDDIES did not travel as strongly as it had previously and then did not finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of CIGAR BUDDIES immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of STAR OF WUYI immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
FORTUNE MASTER, HAPPY GATHERING and EUROMISSILE were sent for sampling.

In the Straight, ZONE D lay in under pressure.
After the race, L Ferraris stated that when racing outside MASTER HERO after the 1200 Metres, VIVA HUNTER would not relax. He said his mount got its head up on a number of occasions as he attempted to maintain its position outside MASTER HERO and when VIVA HUNTER continued to travel keenly, he elected to allow VIVA HUNTER to stride forward of MASTER HERO near the 700 Metres rather than continue to restrain his mount.
NIMBLE NIMBUS and STORM LEGEND were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (71) TAI SHUE WAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

H Z TOURBILLON began only fairly and then lost ground when crowded for room between ADIOS and DROPS OF GOD which shifted out. In this incident, ADIOS became unbalanced and lost ground when bumped on the hindquarters by H Z TOURBILLON.
STOICISM shifted out at the start and hampered NAMJONG SINGS. Then from the outside barriers, both STOICISM and NAMJONG SINGS were shifted across behind runners.
After being ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages in an attempt to obtain a forward position, DIAMOND BRILLIANT was steadied approaching the 1000 Metres in an attempt to obtain cover behind XPONENTIAL. When ADIOS improved to be racing inside DIAMOND BRILLIANT and behind XPONENTIAL passing the 1000 Metres, this resulted in DIAMOND BRILLIANT being left racing wide and without cover. DIAMOND BRILLIANT was then again ridden along passing the 850 Metres to improve forward of XPONENTIAL and shift in to race outside the lead near the 600 Metres.
DROPS OF GOD was held up for clear running rounding the Home Turn. H Z TOURBILLON, which was following DROPS OF GOD, was also held up for clear running in consequence. Then at the entrance to the Straight, H Z TOURBILLON was directed to the inside of FLYING BONUS in an attempt to obtain clear running inside that horse. As H Z TOURBILLON was being shifted in, FLYING BONUS lay in away from DROPS OF GOD, resulting in H Z TOURBILLON being checked away from the heels of FLYING BONUS and then being held up for clear running until approaching the 200 Metres. As the Stewards were satisfied that H Z TOURBILLON had not established running to the inside of FLYING BONUS prior to that horse shifting ground, no further action was taken.
Throughout the race, CALIFORNIA CONCORD travelled wide and without cover.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of V Borges (DIAMOND BRILLIANT), 5th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless severely reprimanded and placed on notice regarding his obligation to ride his mounts out all the way to the end of the race where circumstances permit.
A veterinary inspection of DIAMOND BRILLIANT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of STOICISM immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, STOICISM will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Race:8 (72) WONG CHUK HANG HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

OUR CLASS ACT, which sustained a small abrasion above the right nostril, was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.
HAPPY SOUL, which was very fractious in the barriers, was slow to begin and then from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners to obtain a position closer to the rail. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY SOUL will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
HAPPY FOREVER and ABOVE ALL bumped at the start whilst MY INTELLIGENT and MEGA BONUS also bumped on jumping.
OUR CLASS ACT was crowded for room at the start between COLOURFUL PRINCE which shifted in and SIGHT HERO which was bumped by BRAVE STAR.
GEM OF SOUTH CHINA lost its left front plate in the early stages.
Near the 1000 Metres, HAPPY SOUL and TURIN WARRIOR became unbalanced when crowded for room inside SIGHT HERO (L Currie) which was laying in and then was turned in due to contact being made to its hindquarters by TURIN WARRIOR. At the same time, GANG OF BROTHERS (C Y Ho) shifted in marginally, compounding the tightening before being directed out to relieve the crowding. C Y Ho and L Currie were both advised in similar circumstances to make a greater effort to ensure runners to their inside have sufficient racing room.
Approaching and passing the 900 Metres, BRAVE STAR got its head up when traveling keenly and awkwardly placed behind MY INTELLIGENT.
Near the 900 Metres, MY INTELLIGENT lay in away from MEGA BONUS and inconvenienced HAPPY FOREVER.
Also near the 900 Metres, TURIN WARRIOR was again crowded for room inside SIGHT HERO which, after becoming unbalanced, shifted in abruptly behind BRAVE STAR before being shifted back out to provide sufficient room to TURIN WARRIOR to relieve the crowding.
Passing the 800 Metres, MY INTELLIGENT raced tight inside the heels of MEGA BONUS which in turn was shifted in away from the heels of COLOURFUL PRINCE. After being cleared by COLOURFUL PRINCE near the 700 Metres, MEGA BONUS was then ridden forward to clear MY INTELLIGENT.
After the 700 Metres, GEM OF SOUTH CHINA (M L Yeung) was left racing wide and without cover, lay out rounding the Home Turn and then in the Straight gave ground. After the race, M L Yeung reported that it was intended for the horse to be ridden in a forward position tonight but was unable to do so due to the fast tempo in the early stages. A veterinary inspection of GEM OF SOUTH CHINA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GEM OF SOUTH CHINA, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GEM OF SOUTH CHINA will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
At the entrance to the Straight, GANG OF BROTHERS and GEM OF SOUTH CHINA brushed.
OUR CLASS ACT was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and after being shifted in a number of horses was again held up for clear running behind ABOVE ALL after the 250 Metres. Then near the 200 Metres, OUR CLASS ACT attempted to improve into very tight running between HAPPY FOREVER and ABOVE ALL. As OUR CLASS ACT was endeavouring to improve into tight running, ABOVE ALL (R Maia) was shifted to the inside of COLOURFUL PRINCE to obtain clear running. This resulted in OUR CLASS ACT being severely checked and not able to be properly tested over the concluding stages. After taking evidence from the relevant riders and after viewing the videos, the Stewards were not able to be satisfied that OUR CLASS ACT had established running inside ABOVE ALL given the tight run which existed in the lead up to the incident and the proximity of OUR CLASS ACT to ABOVE ALL as ABOVE ALL shifted to the inside of COLOURFUL PRINCE. Whilst the Stewards formed the view that OUR CLASS ACT had not established running inside ABOVE ALL when that horse shifted ground, nonetheless R Maia was advised to ensure that he exercises due care when shifting ground to improve his position in similar circumstances.
HAPPY SOUL had difficulty obtaining clear running over the final 100 Metres and because of this was not able to be properly tested.
When questioned, C Y Ho (GANG OF BROTHERS) stated that it was the intention to ride the horse in a forward position in accordance with its normal racing pattern, however, from a wide barrier was unable to do so due to the circumstances of the race in the early stages, ultimately having to race wide and then failing to run on in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of GANG OF BROTHERS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MY INTELLIGENT, SIGHT HERO and BRAVE STAR were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (73) WONG CHUK HANG HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

NOIR RIDER was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (laceration to right hind leg). Before being allowed to race again, NOIR RIDER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
COLOURFUL BARON began awkwardly and was steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
IRON WILL lost ground when crowded for room on jumping between RATTAN KINGDOM which was brushed by YELLOWFIN and LUCKY GOR which shifted in on jumping. After this, LUCKY GOR and IRON WILL were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Also from the outside barrier, HARDLY SWEARS was steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners.
Making the turn after the 1100 Metres, WIND SPEEDER shifted in and brushed the running rail of its own accord.
VAMOS travelled keenly in the early and middle stages and proved very difficult to settle. Then approaching and passing the 600 Metres, VAMOS continued to race keenly and was awkwardly placed behind YELLOWFIN.
Near the 1050 Metres, COLONEL got its head on the side, lay in and bumped YELLOWFIN.
After the 700 Metres, RATTAN KINGDOM was left racing wide and without cover.
After being crossed by COLONEL after the 700 Metres, YELLOWFIN travelled keenly and was very awkwardly placed close to the heels of COLONEL after the 600 Metres.
In the Straight, COLONEL hung in under pressure.
WIND SPEEDER lost its right front plate after the race.
When questioned regarding his riding of GOODLUCK GOODLUCK after the 600 Metres, K C Leung stated that he was able to improve his position forward of YELLOWFIN near the 550 Metres to race outside the hindquarters of COLONEL. He said passing the 500 Metres YELLOWFIN clipped the heels of COLONEL and shifted out. He said whilst he was concerned with the proximity of YELLOWFIN to the heels of COLONEL at the time that YELLOWFIN shifted out, he felt that in order to ensure that YELLOWFIN was not able to shift out from behind COLONEL, he would have had to ride his mount along to maintain his position. He said this would have resulted in GOODLUCK GOODLUCK having to be ridden along from the 500 Metres and he did not believe that if he did this, GOODLUCK GOODLUCK would have the best opportunity to finish the race off as it would have had to make a sustained run. He added that whilst it was not ideal for GOODLUCK GOODLUCK to be shifted to a three wide position after the 500 Metres, most of tonight’s winners had finished away from the rail so he was not concerned that being three wide rounding the Home Turn would present as a reason for GOODLUCK GOODLUCK then not being able to finish the race off in the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of WIND SPEEDER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of PRIDE OF EIGHT immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
YELLOWFIN, LUCKY GOR and RATTAN KINGDOM were sent for sampling.
<6/10/2022 Additional Veterinary Reports>PRIDE OF EIGHT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. PRIDE OF EIGHT was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D J Hall this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, PRIDE OF EIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
