Race:1 (214) ASHLEY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1200 m

THE MULTIPLIER began only fairly, shifted in and brushed the hindquarters of COLOURFUL PRINCE.
NOBODY KNOWS began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped TSUEN WAN GLORY.
EMBARKED began awkwardly and then from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
SUPER CLASS began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped GOLDEN MISSION.
TELECOM MISSILE was held up for clear running passing the 200 Metres at which time the horse was directed to the outside of SUPER CLASS.
Approaching the 50 Metres, COLOURFUL PRINCE was steadied when crowded for room outside GOLD COMET which, when improving into tight running between COLOURFUL PRINCE and GOLDEN MISSION, was directed out away from the heels of GOLDEN MISSION which shifted out under pressure.
GOLDEN MISSION travelled wide and without cover throughout.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DIAMOND SOARS, Apprentice Y L Chung stated that the early section of the race was run at a faster tempo than he had hoped. He said DIAMOND SOARS did not appear to be suited by having SUPER CLASS racing to its outside in the early and middle stages and came under pressure at the 400 Metres. He said after this DIAMOND SOARS was very disappointing in its failure to finish the race off in the Straight. He added DIAMOND SOARS had trialed well in the lead up to today’s race and based on that piece of work it was anticipated that DIAMOND SOARS would again race well today. A veterinary inspection of DIAMOND SOARS immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. The performance of DIAMOND SOARS, a last start winner and favourite for today’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DIAMOND SOARS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, Z Purton was not able to offer any reason for COLOURFUL PRINCE’s disappointing performance. He said whilst COLOURFUL PRINCE ultimately got beaten by further than otherwise it may have due to being crowded approaching the 50 Metres, nonetheless the horse was well beaten at that time. A veterinary inspection of COLOURFUL PRINCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DIAMOND SOARS, THE MULTIPLIER and GOLD COMET were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (215) CAMERON HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1650 m

WAH MAY LUCK stumbled at the start, shifted out and bumped ENCORE.
QUORUM was slow to begin.
BOYS PARTY shifted out on jumping and bumped SPEED FORCE which in turn was then crowded for room inside ASIAN ONE.
From wide barriers, BUDDY SPIRIT and RUN DES RUN were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Approaching the 1300 Metres, WAH MAY LUCK, which was laying out, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of ENCORE as that horse improved forward of WAH MAY LUCK. After this, WAH MAY LUCK continued to lay out.
DAILY BEAUTY, which had been ridden along for some distance in the early and middle stages, was shifted out from behind runners passing the 900 Metres and allowed to improve its position. After this, DAILY BEAUTY travelled wide and without cover.
Passing the 700 Metres, ASIAN ONE was shifted out away from the heels of ENCORE as BOYS PARTY improved its position around ASIAN ONE. This resulted in ASIAN ONE racing in restricted room between ENCORE and BOYS PARTY for some distance approaching and passing the 600 Metres.
Also passing the 700 Metres, SPEED FORCE was awkwardly placed behind TURF BRILLIANT.
SPEED FORCE was held up for clear running passing the 400 Metres and at the entrance of the Straight was shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running.
Passing the 250 Metres, TURF BRILLIANT was shifted in away from the heels of CHARIZARD. TURF BRILLIANT was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHARIZARD passing the 200 Metres as TURF BRILLIANT was directed out from behind runners.
A veterinary inspection of ENCORE immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained an overreach wound to the inside of its right front heel.
ASIAN ONE, RUN DES RUN and DAILY BEAUTY were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (216) CARNARVON HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

SUGAR SUGAR began very awkwardly and bumped the outside of its gate, resulting in SUGAR SUGAR losing a considerable amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, SUGAR SUGAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
LAMMA HONOR shifted out at the start and bumped GENERAL ACE. LAMMA HONOR and GENERAL ACE were then crowded for room a short distance after the start between SMART LEADER and GOLDEN BULL which, after initially being directed out by DUBLIN STAR, then shifted out away from that horse.
From the outside barrier, GOAL ORIENTED was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the 1100 Metres, FAST BUCK shifted in and bumped UNITED WE STAND. FAST BUCK then shifted out and inconvenienced GOLDEN BULL which in turn inconvenienced SMART LEADER. UNITED WE STAND then travelled keenly in the lead in the middle stages.
LAMMA HONOR travelled keenly passing the 1000 Metres and made the turn near the 900 Metres awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SMART LEADER which raced wide and without cover until approaching the 600 Metres.
Passing the 600 Metres, SMART BEAUTY was shifted out away from the heels of LAMMA HONOR which came under pressure. When SMART BEAUTY was shifted out, GENERAL ACE, which was following, was shifted out abruptly away from the heels of that horse in consequence. After this, LAMMA HONOR continued to give ground and finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of LAMMA HONOR immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea. The performance of LAMMA HONOR was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LAMMA HONOR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Near the 75 Metres, SUGAR SUGAR momentarily raced in restricted room inside the heels of FAST BUCK.
UNITED WE STAND and GOLDEN BULL were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (217) HANKOW HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

BLAZING SUN began only fairly and then was crowded for room shortly after the start between MIRACLES which shifted out and LIGHT OF WANSHI which shifted in after being bumped by CALL ME TEDDY.
After travelling a short distance, ICE LEGEND was crowded for room between SPONTANEOUS and WAYFOONG LEGEND, both of which shifted ground. After this, from a wide barrier, ICE LEGEND was shifted across behind runners.
Near the 950 Metres, WAYFOONG LEGEND momentarily raced in restricted room between SMILING COLLECTOR and SPONTANEOUS which shifted in. Then approaching and passing the 800 Metres, WAYFOONG LEGEND proved difficult to settle.
Approaching the 800 Metres, MIRACLES became unbalanced when racing tight inside LIGHT OF WANSHI which became unbalanced and shifted in after being bumped by CALL ME TEDDY which lay in away from SPONTANEOUS. When unbalanced, LIGHT OF WANSHI then shifted out, resulting in CALL ME TEDDY momentarily being crowded for room inside SPONTANEOUS. LIGHT OF WANSHI then got its head on the side and lay back in away from SPONTANEOUS, resulting in MIRACLES being crowded for room outside BEAUTY CHAMP after the 800 Metres. As the Stewards were of the opinion that there was no rider carelessness associated with this incident, no further action was taken.
Apprentice Y L Chung (FLYING BONUS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of STAND UP, resulting in STAND UP being hampered when unnecessarily crowded for room inside FLYING BONUS. In the circumstances, Apprentice Chung was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 21 December 2022 and to expire on Sunday, 25 December 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
Near the 750 Metres, ICE LEGEND commenced to travel keenly and making the turn near the 700 Metres was steadied away from the heels of SMILING COLLECTOR.
Making the turn near the 700 Metres, BLAZING SUN lay in and then got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of SMILING COLLECTOR.
Also making the turn at the 700 Metres, STAND UP was taken wider and without cover by ACE TALENT which shifted out from behind FLYING BONUS.
BEAUTY CHAMP raced close to the heels of FLYING BONUS on entering the Home Straight when held up for clear running behind that horse. BEAUTY CHAMP was shifted out away from the heels of FLYING BONUS near the 100 Metres after being disappointed for running inside that horse.
After the 200 Metres, LIGHT OF WANSHI got its head on the side and lay in under pressure.
After the race, SPONTANEOUS was noted to have bled from both nostrils.
A veterinary inspection of MIRACLES immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ICE LEGEND and STAND UP were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (218) MIDDLE HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1800 m

Whilst parading behind the barriers, CHATER PINS kicked a rail. CHATER PINS was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said that after the necessary consultations the horse was suitable to race.
WINNING STEPS began only fairly.
REGENCY MASTER was crowded for room on jumping between MOONLIGHT VISTA and SKYEY SUPREME which shifted in. In this incident, MOONLIGHT VISTA became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by REGENCY MASTER.
LEGION OF MERIT shifted out at the start and inconvenienced MISSION BRAVO.
From the outside barriers, RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE, CHATER PINS and VIVA A LA were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, COLOURFUL BARON commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when awkwardly placed behind MISSION BRAVO.
Making the turn after passing the winning post on the first occasion, REGENCY MASTER got its head on the side and lay out. Then after the 1400 Metres, REGENCY MASTER got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of COLOURFUL BARON. REGENCY MASTER subsequently shifted out, resulting in RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE losing ground when crowded for room inside BOOM ALLIANCE. VIVA A LA, which was following RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE and travelling keenly, got its head up when awkwardly placed behind that horse in consequence.
For some distance after the 1100 Metres, VIVA A LA raced ungenerously and after the 1000 Metres shifted out and was checked away from the heels of RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE.
DARCI JOY lost its left front plate in the middle stages.
At the 600 Metres, SHANGHAI DRAGON was bumped by LEGION OF MERIT which improved to the outside of SKYEY SUPREME. DARCI JOY was shifted out away from the heels of SHANGHAI DRAGON in consequence.
Passing the 100 Metres, CHATER PINS raced tight between DARCI JOY and SHANGHAI DRAGON which lay out under pressure.
DARCI JOY travelled wide and without cover throughout.
A veterinary inspection of MOONLIGHT VISTA, SHANGHAI DRAGON and SUN OF MAKFI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SUN OF MAKFI, RIGHTEOUS DOCTRINE and SKYEY SUPREME were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (219) THE PENINSULA GOLDEN JUBILEE CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 3 1000 m

RUN RUN COOL, which kicked a rail in the saddling area, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said that the horse was suitable to race.
As the start was effected, SUPERB BOY, which was being assisted by a starting gate handler, lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently lost a significant amount of ground. Before being allowed to race again, SUPERB BOY will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
MAJESTIC KNIGHT shifted out at the start and bumped QUADRUPLE DOUBLE.
SINGAPORE SUNSHINE began very awkwardly and then was crowded for room on jumping between MAGIC TORONADO and GOLDEN WARSTEED which shifted out.
BRILLIANT WAY and FLYING DRAGON bumped at the start.
M Chadwick (KA YING SPIRIT) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of RUN RUN COOL, resulting in RUN RUN COOL being crowded for room and taken out onto BRILLIANT WAY and making contact with that horse, causing BRILLIANT WAY to shift out onto FLYING DRAGON which resulted in FLYING DRAGON being taken out across the rightful running of GOLDEN WARSTEED which was badly hampered and taken out across MAGIC TORONADO which was severely checked. FLYING DRAGON then continued to shift out, resulting in GOLDEN WARSTEED also being severely checked. M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 1 January 2023 and to expire on Thursday, 5 January 2023 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Jockey Chadwick was fined $30,000.
Over the concluding stages, FLYING DRAGON raced tight outside SUPERB BOY.
A veterinary inspection of GOLDEN WARSTEED immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SUPERB BOY, QUADRUPLE DOUBLE and MAJESTIC KNIGHT were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (220) HUMPHREYS HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1650 m

BULLETPROOF lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and consequently was slow to begin.
AMAZING TEENS and KING’S CAPITAL brushed on jumping.
YES WE CAN shifted out at the start and bumped ROYAL BOMB.
From the outside barriers, HAVA NAGEELA and GOLDEN LINK were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 1200 Metres, BEAUTY FIT and TRADER raced tight. AMAZING TEENS, which was following TRADER, shifted in away from the heels of that horse, resulting in HANDSOME TWELVE being momentarily crowded for room. COPARTNER ELITES, which was following HANDSOME TWELVE, was inconvenienced in consequence.
Also approaching the 1200 Metres, ROYAL BOMB was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 800 Metres, HAVA NAGEELA commenced to travel keenly and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of YES WE CAN.
YES WE CAN was held up for clear running rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight.
HANDSOME TWELVE lay in under pressure in the Straight.
HANDSOME TWELVE and TRUE LEGEND were sent for sampling.
<5/12/2022 Additional Veterinary Reports>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that COPARTNER ELITES was lame in its left front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, COPARTNER ELITES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Race:8 (221) MODY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1400 m

BEAU GOSSE was slow to begin.
GOLDEN FAIRY and VUKAN brushed on jumping.
CASA LEGEND shifted out at the start and bumped STAR OF YUEN LONG. After this, CASA LEGEND was shifted across behind runners.
WIN WIN was also shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the 1200 Metres, HO HO JUNIOR was momentarily awkwardly placed behind SUPER HIGHWAY.
Passing the 1100 Metres, CASA LEGEND improved to be racing tight between BEAU GOSSE and GOLDEN FAIRY which at this time was being steadied in an attempt to obtain cover behind GOOD NEWS. This resulted in CASA LEGEND racing tight outside the hindquarters of BEAU GOSSE which got its head up when racing keenly and awkwardly placed outside the heels of NOBLE STEED. After this, CASA LEGEND continued to race in restricted room between BEAU GOSSE and GOLDEN FAIRY and then making the turn after the 900 Metres BEAU GOSSE, which was continuing to prove difficult to settle, shifted out, resulting in CASA LEGEND being taken out onto GOLDEN FAIRY which became unbalanced as a result of being bumped by CASA LEGEND. BEAU GOSSE then continued to prove difficult to settle for some distance after this.
Near the 750 Metres, WIN WIN momentarily raced tight inside BEAU GOSSE which lay in.
Passing the 300 Metres, CASA LEGEND was shifted out across the heels of VUKAN to obtain clear running.
When questioned, M L Yeung stated that after the 1000 Metres he attempted to shift STAR OF YUEN LONG across to clear SUPER HIGHWAY and race outside the lead. He said he rode his mount along in an attempt to clear SUPER HIGHWAY, however, STAR OF YUEN LONG was not travelling strongly enough to be able to clear that horse which at this time was travelling strongly. He said he continued to try and clear SUPER HIGHWAY, however, passing the 800 Metres STAR OF YUEN LONG was at its top and was not able to improve sufficiently to cross SUPER HIGHWAY which resulted in STAR OF YUEN LONG having to race three wide and without cover.
When questioned, S De Sousa stated that he was asked to ride BLISSFUL STAR in a position in advance of midfield, however, he was told to ensure not to cover unnecessary ground and if it was necessary to race further back in the field in order to avoid racing wide, then he should do so. He said on jumping he anticipated that VUKAN, which was drawn inside BLISSFUL STAR, would be ridden to take up a forward position and therefore he positioned BLISSFUL STAR outside that horse with a view to possibly improving with VUKAN. He said however that after traveling a short distance VUKAN was steadied by its rider and he believed that to ride BLISSFUL STAR along at this stage in order to clear VUKAN would have resulted in BLISSFUL STAR having to race wide, therefore he elected to steady his mount and shift across behind runners. He added that after the 900 Metres BLISSFUL STAR was travelling keenly and racing very wide and therefore he elected to continue to steady BLISSFUL STAR and obtain a position with cover behind CASA LEGEND but closer to the rail. He said this resulted in BLISSFUL STAR racing further back in the field than had been intended.
A veterinary inspection of NUNCHUKS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CASA LEGEND, MARADO and YOUNG VICTORY were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (222) NATHAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1400 m

IVY LEAGUE was checked on jumping when crowded for room between JAZZ CLUB and TRAVEL GOLF which shifted in abruptly despite the efforts of its rider.
PARTERRE and GOODBAN BANBANBANG bumped at the start.
From the outside barrier, CASA COSMO was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After initially being ridden along from a wide barrier, AMAZING VICTORY was steadied passing the 1300 Metres and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Passing the 1100 Metres, GOODBAN BANBANBANG was momentarily crowded for room inside PARTERRE which shifted in before being directed back out to relieve the crowding.
In the early stages, GLOBAL HARMONY was left racing wide and without cover and approaching the 900 Metres was ridden along to clear JAZZ CLUB and race outside the lead near the 750 Metres at which time PARTERRE was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 800 Metres, AMAZING VICTORY momentarily raced in restricted room inside the heels of SAMARKAND and passing the 600 Metres was awkwardly placed behind CALIFORNIA REDWOOD.
At the entrance to the Straight, LET’S DO IT was steadied when disappointed for running between IVY LEAGUE and AMAZING VICTORY which shifted to the inside of CALIFORNIA REDWOOD to obtain clear running.
Passing the 400 Metres, CALIFORNIA REDWOOD was shifted to the inside of TRAVEL GOLF to continue improving.
After the 400 Metres, A PAL shifted in marginally and bumped the hindquarters of ALL RICHES which became unbalanced and shifted out.
Near the 300 Metres, LET’S DO IT had some difficulty obtaining clear running.
Passing the 300 Metres, GOODBAN BANBANBANG raced in restricted room between GLOBAL HARMONY and PARTERRE.
Passing the 100 Metres, LET’S DO IT (K H Chan), which was finishing the race off strongly, improved to be racing close to the heels of A PAL. LET’S DO IT was then shifted in away from the heels of A PAL which got its head on the side and lay in. This resulted in ALL RICHES, which was racing to the inside of LET’S DO IT, being crowded for room inside that horse as LET’S DO IT improved to be racing inside the heels of A PAL. When K H Chan attempted to steady LET’S DO IT, he dropped his left rein which he was able to regather close to the finishing line.
The performance of JAZZ CLUB, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, JAZZ CLUB will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of GLOBAL HARMONY and JAZZ CLUB immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A PAL, AMAZING VICTORY and CALIFORNIA REDWOOD were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (223) SALISBURY HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1200 m

CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 3.12.22 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right front tendon injury). Before being allowed to race again, CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
On Friday, 2 December 2022, the Stewards approved for H N Wong to be substituted as the rider of EQUALETTA BLITZ as K H Chan was unable to make the weight. Having regard to the circumstances of this case and in particular that Jockey Chan advised the connections and the Stewards of his unavailability to ride prior to betting commencing, the Stewards believed that the appropriate penalty was for him to be fined a sum of $2,000. After the race, H N Wong weighed in 3 lbs overweight. Having regard to the circumstances of this matter in the lead up to the race, no further action was taken.
GALAXY WITNESS began awkwardly and bumped the inside of its gate, resulting in the horse beginning only fairly.
TORONADO PHANTOM and APACHE PASS bumped on jumping.
CAMPIONE began awkwardly.
GALAXY WITNESS made the turn near the 700 Metres awkwardly and shifted out towards the heels of APACHE PASS.
Also making the turn near the 700 Metres, POWER KOEPP was steadied away from the heels of CALIFORNIA RAD which got its head on the side and shifted in marginally before being directed out to relieve the crowding to POWER KOEPP. TORONADO PHANTOM, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of POWER KOEPP in consequence.
After the 550 Metres, EQUALETTA BLITZ got its head on the side and lay out towards the heels of SUPER WIN DRAGON. EQUALETTA BLITZ continued to lay out and passing the 400 Metres lay out towards the heels of MAJESTIC STAR.
In the early part of the Straight, TORONADO PHANTOM lay in and proved reluctant to shift to the outside of APACHE PASS. TORONADO PHANTOM then continued to lay in and was awkwardly placed behind POWER KOEPP passing the 100 Metres.
Throughout the race, KA YING MASTER travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of MAJESTIC STAR immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.
A veterinary inspection of APACHE PASS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
MAJESTIC STAR, SUPER WIN DRAGON and CAMPIONE were sent for sampling.

Racing Laboratory tests of HANDSOME REBEL, AMAZING ROCKY, CIRCUIT SEVEN, MEDIC ELITE, THETA HEDGE, WAH MAY LUCK, SPARKY STAR, RED BRICK FIGHTER, HAPPY ANGEL, SMOOTHIES, BEAUTY TYCOON, YO BEAUTY, RIGHT AS RAIN, SUNNY DELIGHT, WIN WIN FIGHTER, JUMBO LEGEND, POWER KOEPP, STAR BRITE, NORDIC DRAGON, MELBOURNE HALL, ZONE D, EXCEPTIONAL NICE and RED MAJESTY (23.11.22) proved negative.
