A veterinary inspection of HAPPY SOUL immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY SOUL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of LUCKY ETERNITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
COLONEL, SIGHT HERO and HONG KONG HALL were sent for sampling.

After the race, Mr C H Yip, trainer of TRUST ME, confirmed that he had instructed A Badel from its outside barrier to ride the horse in a conservative manner in the early stages. He said he issued the instructions on the basis that he did not believe TRUST ME had sufficient pace to cross runners to its inside and as a result was concerned if the horse was ridden in a forward position, it may be caught wide during the running of the event.
A veterinary inspection of KING ECCELLENTE and STARRY NIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SPEEDY SMARTIE and MODULECONSTRUCTION were sent for sampling.
<29/3/2023 26 March 2023 Sha Tin Racemeeting – Race 3 (523)> The Veterinary Surgeon reported that ROARING BEBE was lame in its right hind leg after racing. Before being allowed to race again, ROARING BEBE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Also near the 1200 Metres, HUNKY DORY, which was racing keenly, was steadied to avoid TRAVEL GLORY after being crossed by that runner.
THIS IS GUTS raced keenly in the early stages and passing the 1200 Metres shifted in, resulting in ERNEST FEELING, which was also racing keenly, being steadied.
HANDSOME GUYS over-raced in the early and middle stages and for some distance passing the 900 Metres was awkwardly placed close to FORTUNE MASTER.
Approaching the 600 Metres, FELIX THE KING and WINWIN THIRTYTHREE bumped due to FELIX THE KING racing tight to the inside of ERNEST FEELING.
Near the 500 Metres, FELIX THE KING fell, resulting in its rider, M L Yeung, being dislodged. M L Yeung was subsequently transported to hospital. The Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason for FELIX THE KING falling. After taking evidence from H Bowman (WINWIN THIRTYTHREE), A Badel (BEAUTY NOVA), A Hamelin (ERNEST FEELING) and L Ferraris (HUNKY DORY), the inquiry was adjourned until a date to be fixed so that evidence can be taken from Jockey Yeung.
WINWIN THIRTYTHREE was held up for clear running for some distance making the Home Turn and approaching the 500 Metres was steadied away from BEAUTY NOVA.
HANDSOME GUYS was briefly held up approaching the 400 Metres.
Passing the 400 Metres, HUNKY DORY became held up behind HANDSOME GUYS and was steadied when disappointed for running between THIS IS GUTS and HANDSOME GUYS which shifted out. HUNKY DORY then did not obtain clear running until near the 250 Metres.
From the 400 Metres to the 150 Metres, MAXIMIZE HEART was held up for clear running.
When giving ground near the 200 Metres, THIS IS GUTS shifted out and became awkwardly placed close to HUNKY DORY and a short distance later was steadied away from MAXIMIZE HEART which shifted to the outside of HANDSOME GUYS to obtain clear running.
The performance of FORTUNE MASTER, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE MASTER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of FORTUNE MASTER immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea.
A veterinary inspection of HANDSOME GUYS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of GIVE WAY PLEASE immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
ERNEST FEELING and WINWIN THIRTYTHREE were sent for sampling.
<2/4/2023 Adjourned Inquiry – 26 March 2023 Sha Tin Racemeeting – Race 4 (524)> The Stewards today continued an inquiry into the reason for FELIX THE KING falling near the 500 Metres. On 26 March 2023, evidence was taken from H Bowman (WINWIN THIRTYTHREE), A Badel (BEAUTY NOVA), A Hamelin (ERNEST FEELING) and L Ferraris (HUNKY DORY). At today’s inquiry, further evidence was taken from A Badel, A Hamelin, L Ferraris in addition to M L Yeung, the rider of FELIX THE KING, who was unable to provide evidence on the day due to receiving medical treatment. The inquiry today established that near the 500 Metres FELIX THE KING was positioned close to ERNEST FEELING at which point M L Yeung commenced to place his mount under pressure when racing directly behind ERNEST FEELING. A short distance later, Jockey Yeung directed FELIX THE KING out slightly to commence a move to the outside of ERNEST FEELING which at the same point ERNEST FEELING was taken out slightly by BEAUTY NOVA which was taken out by HUNKY DORY. As a result, the Stewards found that FELIX THE KING struck the near hind heel of ERNEST FEELING which resulted in FELIX THE KING falling and M L Yeung being dislodged. After considering all the evidence, the Stewards found that the positioning of FELIX THE KING close to the heels of ERNEST FEELING was the major contributor for FELIX THE KING striking heels and falling, however, L Ferraris was advised that in similar circumstances he should exercise more care when shifting ground.

Race:5 (525) NEW ASIA ALUMNI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1400 m

STRATHPEFFER jumped awkwardly and made contact with the right side of its barrier. A short distance later, STRATHPEFFER then bumped heavily with SINGAPORE SPIRIT which was taken out by BLISSFUL LIFE, resulting in STRATHPEFFER and SINGAPORE SPIRIT becoming unbalanced. SINGAPORE SPIRIT lost its left hind plate at the start.
FLYING GALLOP was slow to begin and then was checked when crowded between LOST CHILD and SUPERB MOVE which shifted out. In the early stages, FLYING GALLOP over-raced and refused to settle.
From the outside barrier, MILLENNIUM FALCON was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
In the middle stages, GALVANIC raced keenly.
Approaching the 300 Metres, KASI FARASI was held up for clear running when endeavouring to improve into a narrow run between DIAMOND FLARE and GALVANIC.
When questioned, K C Leung (BLISSFUL LIFE) explained that he was instructed to have his mount ridden just off the speed, however, he was left with no other option but to lead with the horse racing keenly and returning from a long spell and blinkers on.
After the race, M F Poon (GALLANT HERO) reported that his mount was reluctant to race inside other runners and particularly in the Straight lay in and proved difficult to ride out. A veterinary inspection of GALLANT HERO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Also after the race, SINGAPORE SPIRIT was noted to have a small amount of blood at its mouth.
A veterinary inspection of STRATHPEFFER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GALVANIC, LOST CHILD and ARIEL were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (526) UNITED ALUMNI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1600 m

From the outside barrier, TURQUOISE ALPHA was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Near the 600 Metres, OWNERS’ PRAISE was hampered when racing tight to the inside of EIGHTEEN PALMS.
Near the 500 Metres, EIGHTEEN PALMS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SMART BEAUTY when being directed to that runner’s outside to obtain clear running.
Near the 400 Metres, SMART BEAUTY shifted out slightly away from DARCI JOY and made contact with EIGHTEEN PALMS, resulting in EIGHTEEN PALMS racing tight to the inside of DRAGON DELIGHT.
Near the 300 Metres, SMART BEAUTY was checked and EIGHTEEN PALMS became badly unbalanced when DARCI JOY (K Teetan) shifted out slightly and made contact with SMART BEAUTY which resulted in SMART BEAUTY being taken out onto EIGHTEEN PALMS, causing EIGHTEEN PALMS to bump the hindquarters of DRAGON DELIGHT (L Hewitson), turning that horse in slightly. As the Stewards found that both K Teetan and L Hewitson had endeavoured to correct their mounts when they received contact and commenced to shift ground, no further action was taken.
When questioned regarding the apparent improvement of FOREVER FOLKS, Trainer C W Chang reported that at its last start FOREVER FOLKS failed to run out the 2000 Metres. He said as a result he gave FOREVER FOLKS a short break before barrier trialing the horse on 17 March 2023 where in his opinion it showed improvement. He added that today’s track conditions together with FOREVER FOLKS racing at a more suitable distance of 1600 Metres were the principal reasons for the horse’s improved performance.
When questioned regarding SMART BEAUTY taking up a more forward position today, Apprentice Y L Chung stated that he was instructed to endeavour to find a position with cover where comfortable. He added that with the moderate pace in the early stages, SMART BEAUTY travelled keenly and for this reason he elected to allow his mount to stride forward whereby it obtain a position outside the leader OSCAR GLORY near the 1200 Metres and consequently settled in a more forward position than had been anticipated. Trainer A S Cruz confirmed the instructions issued to Apprentice Chung.
When questioned regarding the performance of DARCI JOY, K Teetan stated that his mount enjoyed a comfortable run in the event, but after making heavy contact with SMART BEAUTY near the 300 Metres and becoming unbalanced, DARCI JOY failed to finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of DARCI JOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned regarding the performance of EIGHTEEN PALMS, C Y Ho stated that his mount was somewhat immature and raced greenly, particularly when positioned inside other runners. He added that after receiving interference near the 300 Metres, EIGHTEEN PALMS failed to finish the race off. A veterinary inspection of EIGHTEEN PALMS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FOREVER FOLKS and OWNERS’ PRAISE were sent for sampling.

On jumping, NAMJONG SINGS and TALENTS SUPREMO were badly crowded for room between CHEVAL VALIANT which shifted out and READY TO WIN which was taken in by SAVVY DELIGHT which shifted in after bumping with FLYING DRAGON.
FLYING HIGH jumped only fairly and was then hampered when crowded by METRO WARRIOR which shifted in.
Near the 700 Metres, PLEASANT ENDEAVOR and SEASONS WIT bumped due to PLEASANT ENDEAVOR shifting in slightly.
For a short distance near the 400 Metres, PLEASANT ENDEAVOR raced tight to the outside of METRO WARRIOR.
Over the final 400 Metres, READY TO WIN (L Currie) hung in and proved difficult to ride out. L Currie was warned in relation to using the whip forward of the horse’s saddle.
After the race, K Teetan (TALENTS SUPREMO) stated that his mount was left racing without cover throughout the event and this was the principal reason for the horse’s disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection of TALENTS SUPREMO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Also after the race, A Badel (NAMJONG SINGS) reported that his mount failed to travel at any stage of the event and was most disappointing. A veterinary inspection of NAMJONG SINGS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of NAMJONG SINGS, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, NAMJONG SINGS will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Following the race, it was reported that CALIFORNIA RAD had bled from both nostrils.
A veterinary inspection of SEASONS WIT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Race:9 (529) WU YEE SUN ALUMNI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1600 m

CHING jumped only fairly.
PACKING HURRICANE was bumped at the start by LEADING FORTUNE which shifted out.
THE BEST PEACH was slow to begin and then shifted in and made contact with the hindquarters of ATOMIC BEAUTY.
CELTIC TIMES jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
ENTRUSTED also jumped awkwardly.
Between the 1400 Metres and the 1000 Metres, CHING and LEADING FORTUNE (L Currie) contested a position one-off and behind HAPPY TOGETHER. Approaching the 900 Metres, when LEADING FORTUNE was unable to direct CHING towards the rail, LEADING FORTUNE was checked when crowded between CHING and SINBA (H Bowman) which shifted in slightly. The Stewards found that the actions of L Currie in persisting too long to endeavour to direct CHING towards the rail was a significant contributor to the interference suffered by LEADING FORTUNE, however, H Bowman was also advised to exercise more care. CELTIC TIMES, which was following, was steadied away from LEADING FORTUNE in consequence.
THE EQUALIZER lay out on the Home Turn.
SUPER OASIS raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event and near the 125 Metres shifted out and bumped CELTIC TIMES.
Near the 75 Metres, ENTRUSTED was directed to the inside of SUPER BABY to continue into clear running.
Over the concluding stages, PEGASUS HERO lay out away from CHING when that runner improved to the inside of PEGASUS HERO, resulting in SINBA shifting out and away from PEGASUS HERO, forcing HAPPY TOGETHER wider. In this incident, CELTIC TIMES, which was finishing the race off well, could not be ridden out when positioned close to HAPPY TOGETHER.
When questioned regarding his riding of HAPPY TOGETHER making the Home Turn, Z Purton stated that after being positioned behind and to the inside of ATOMIC BEAUTY, he noticed that runner to be under pressure and therefore was reluctant to shift out to follow it into the event from the 500 Metres. He said he remained racing to the inside of ATOMIC BEAUTY and when he identified that THE EQUALIZER commenced to lay out, he shifted to the inside of that runner in an attempt to secure clear running. He added that as he commenced to shift in, PEGASUS HERO, which was positioned to his inside, shifted out which resulted in HAPPY TOGETHER being checked when disappointed for clear running to the inside of THE EQUALIZER. He further added that when THE EQUALIZER commenced to give ground, he became badly held up on the heels of that runner, was severely checked and as a result lost a considerable amount of ground. After considering the explanation offered by Jockey Purton, the Stewards found the tactics he adopted at this stage of the race were reasonable in the circumstances.
When questioned regarding his riding of PACKING HURRICANE in the Straight, K Teetan stated that after settling towards the rear of the field, he placed PACKING HURRICANE under pressure on straightening to commence to improve. He said in the Straight he made his run together with ENTRUSTED being positioned to his outside and passing the 300 Metres when PACKING HURRICANE commenced to make ground, he observed MASSIVE ACTION, which was positioned well in advance of him, commenced to give ground. He added he was unable to shift PACKING HURRICANE away from that runner as he still had ENTRUSTED racing to his outside and received a call from its rider, S De Sousa, which prevented him from shifting out. He said as a consequence near the 100 Metres he was obliged to check to avoid MASSIVE ACTION and then shifted to that runner’s outside to secure clear running whereby he was able to ride his mount out to the finish although PACKING HURRICANE was well beaten. The Stewards advised K Teeten that wherever possible he should ensure he fully tests his mounts to the finish of the race.
A veterinary inspection of LEADING FORTUNE and MASSIVE ACTION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CHING and PEGASUS HERO were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (530) FACULTY OF EDUCATION ALUMNI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1400 m

KING’S CAPITAL jumped awkwardly and was then crowded for room by JUMBO LEGEND which shifted in.
UNIVERSAL HORIZON was slow to begin.
PARTERRE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
From wide barriers, ERIMO and GOLDEN LINK were also shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
A Hamelin (HAPPY DAILY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 1200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of JUMBO LEGEND, resulting in that horse being taken in across the running of KING’S CAPITAL, causing KING’S CAPITAL to be checked and lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. A Hamelin was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 9 April 2023 and to expire on Thursday, 13 April 2023 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Hamelin’s good race riding record.
Passing the 1000 Metres, HAPPY DAILY was steadied to avoid PARTERRE which shifted in.
From the 800 Metres, EXCELLENT DADDY was left racing wide and without cover. The performance of EXCELLENT DADDY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, EXCELLENT DADDY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of EXCELLENT DADDY immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”.
From the 400 Metres, HAPPY DAILY was held up for clear running behind UNIVERSAL HORIZON and did not obtain clear running until near the 200 Metres.
Approaching the 100 Metres, ERIMO was steadied when being shifted out away from GOLDEN LINK when that runner shifted out.
When questioned regarding his riding in the Straight, M Chadwick (MASTER HERO) stated that on straightening when he placed his mount under pressure, it commenced to lay out slightly. He said approaching the 200 Metres when CIRCUIT MIGHTY shifted in slightly, he became awkwardly placed inside that runner whilst his mount continued to lay out. He added that he then considered directing MASTER HERO in, however, received a call from A Badel, the rider of JUMBO LEGEND, and for this reason he remained positioned close to CIRCUIT MIGHTY and was unable to fully test his mount between the 200 Metres and the 100 Metres. He said over the final 100 Metres MASTER HERO continue to lay out and proved somewhat difficult to ride out to the finish. A veterinary inspection of MASTER HERO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of JUMBO LEGEND immediately following the race also found that horse to be a "roarer”.
DROMBEG BANNER and SOLID IMPACT were sent for sampling.
