10 5 MODEST GENTLEMAN (G352) M L Yeung In the middle stages raced keenly. Lay out on the Home Turn and then continued to lay out in the Home Straight before being corrected by its rider M L Yeung. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

8 8 BRILLIANT PIONEER (G255) A Atzeni Approaching the 1000 Metres was steadied away from CHARMING STEED (K H Chan) which shifted in when not clear. K H Chan was severely reprimanded and advised he must ensure he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground. Near the 600 Metres shifted in and away from ISLAND SURPRISE and made slight contact with ERNEST FEELING. A short distance later shifted out and was severely checked when racing tight between ERNEST FEELING and ISLAND SURPRISE and as a consequence lost ground. The Stewards found that the racing manners of BRILLIANT PIONEER were the principal reason for the interference occurring. A Atzeni stated that after striking interference near the 600 Metres, his mount failed to finish the race off from that point. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
4 9 FIGHTING STAR (E255) K Teetan Bumped shortly after the start and from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Steadied near the 600 Metres.
9 10 EASY TWO (G423) K C Leung Jumped only fairly. Near the 1100 Metres, when racing keenly, got its head up when being steadied away from MISTER ARM when that runner gave ground. Near the 600 Metres was shifted to the outside to avoid BRILLIANT PIONEER.
11 11 DAY DAY RICH (D231) C L Chau (-2) When questioned, C L Chau stated that his instructions were to lead. He said DAY DAY RICH was able to obtain the lead comfortably in the early stages without being pressured but disappointed in its failure to respond to his riding in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of DAY DAY RICH was considered to be disappointing as compared to its last start. Before being allowed to race again, DAY DAY RICH will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

7 DH 1 CORDYCEPS ONE (E107) L Hewitson After the race, L Hewitson stated that his mount did not appreciate the early pace of the event being run inside of standard time. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of L Hewitson, 7th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ensure that he rides his mounts out fully to the finish of the race. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
10 2 GET THE MONIES (G168) L Ferraris Approaching the 500 Metres bumped with PERFECT ROCK when endeavouring to shift to the outside of NICE BIRDIE. Approaching the 300 Metres became held up behind NICE BIRDIE and was then shifted to that runner’s outside to secure clear running and raced tight between NICE BIRDIE and PERFECT ROCK for a short distance thereafter and made contact with PERFECT ROCK. After the race, L Ferraris reported that his mount raced keenly in the early stages and for some distance after the 1200 Metres got its head up when being steadied away from CORDYCEPS ONE. He added that the horse made an abnormal respiratory noise during the running of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, GET THE MONIES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

11 6 NICE BIRDIE (G470) K C Leung After the race, K C Leung could offer no excuse for his mount’s disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
3 7 REGENCY HAPPY STAR (H248) A Badel Over the concluding stages lay out under pressure. When questioned, A Badel stated that his instructions were to obtain a midfield position early and he was given the option of making a mid-race move if circumstances permitted as REGENCY HAPPY STAR had performed well when ridden in this manner in the past. He added whilst the pace of the event was run inside of standard throughout the early and middle stages, entering the Back Straight he felt there was an opportunity to allow REGENCY HAPPY STAR to stride forward and as a result he shifted to the outside to allow his mount to cross and eventually lead from the 600 Metres.
5 8 PRECISION GOAL (H016) C L Chau (-2) Shortly after the start was steadied when crowded. Near the 600 Metres became unbalanced when crowded by REGENCY HAPPY STAR (A Badel) which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. A Badel was severely reprimanded. A short distance later was then steadied when REGENCY HAPPY STAR crossed to the rail. A Badel was reprimanded and advised he must ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground.
2 9 LOYAL AMBITION (E489) C Y Ho Jumped awkwardly and was checked shortly after the start when crowded. Was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages from a wide barrier. After the 400 Metres became held up behind SUPER JOY before shifting to that runner’s outside to improve. Sent for sampling post-race.

After the race, M Chadwick reported that his mount over-raced throughout the event and refused to settle and he was placed at some disadvantage when the bit shifted in the horse’s mouth. He added as a result SUPER JOY was unable to finish the race off due to its racing manners in the early stages. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
12 12 PERFECT ROCK (G175) M F Poon (-2) Bumped approaching the 300 Metres. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

7 4 RED HARE KING (H188) M Chadwick No report.
10 5 MASTER TORNADO (G410) K Teetan M Chadwick (RED HARE KING) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 250 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of CONCERTO, resulting in CONCERTO being unnecessarily crowded for room and having to be steadied and also being taken in, unnecessarily crowding MASTER TORNADO. M Chadwick was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 6 December 2023 at Happy Valley. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 3 and the consequences grade 1 and also took into account his good race riding record. 3 9 HAPPY ANGEL (G133) K De Melo Passing the 250 Metres was bumped by RED HARE KING which shifted out when being corrected by its rider M Chadwick. When questioned regarding his riding and the reason he elected to leave a trailing position behind GALLANT CROWN approaching the 900 Metres to improve, K De Melo stated that his instructions were to lead and after his mount did not show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position, he was obliged to settle in a handy position behind GALLANT CROWN. He said when he observed the pace of the event eased slightly after the 900 Metres, he elected to allow HAPPY ANGEL to improve three deep with a view to crossing to the lead as he was advised that HAPPY ANGEL is a one-paced horse. Assistant Trainer P H Lo confirmed the instructions issued to Jockey De Melo. After considering his explanation, the Stewards advised Jockey De Melo that the tactics he adopted were reasonable in the circumstances although HAPPY ANGEL was unable to cross to the rail and as a result raced wide and without cover from the 900 Metres.

Near the 400 Metres was held up behind KILLER INSTINCT. When questioned regarding the slow pace set in the early stages, K H Chan stated that he was instructed to lead on his mount but not to ride along to do so as SAMARKAND has an inclination to race keenly. He said after obtaining the lead, SAMARKAND settled well and although he was aware the pace of the event was slow, he was reluctant to make any use of his mount to set a faster pace so as to avoid SAMARKAND over-racing.
