10 6 SPORTIC WARRIOR (J385) C L Chau (-2) As the start was effected became unbalanced and as a result lost ground. A warning was placed on the barrier manners of the horse.
6 7 ALWAYS FLUKE (H252) C Y Ho Near the 100 Metres was steadied to avoid AFFIRM which shifted out before being corrected by its rider L Ferraris. Prior to declaring weighed-in, the Stewards viewed the official patrol films to ascertain if there were grounds for a protest/objection on behalf of ALWAYS FLUKE, placed 6th, against AFFIRM being declared the 4th placegetter. As they were satisfied that there were not sufficient grounds, weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge.
7 8 OMAKASE (H416) K Teetan Shortly after the start was crowded by AFFIRM which shifted in. <16/9/2024 Additional Veterinary Reports>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that OMAKASE was lame in its right front leg on the morning after racing. 12 6 LUCKY QUALITY (D050) L Ferraris After the event, L Ferraris reported that the intention was to hold a more forward position. He said after jumping awkwardly his mount failed to show sufficient pace in the early stages to do so and was obliged to settle further back than anticipated.
4 7 BEAU GOSSE (G389) C L Chau (-2) When questioned regarding his riding and the reason his mount lead, C L Chau stated that his instructions were, from a wide barrier, to endeavour to settle in a handy position with cover. He said in the early stages after jumping well, BEAU GOSSE raced keenly and as a result improved to the lead when he was unable to get his mount to relax. He added after assuming the lead, BEAU GOSSE responded to his efforts to settle approaching the first turn near the 900 Metres.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SOARING TOWER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SOARING TOWER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments.

6 2 AEROINVINCIBLE (J180) Z Purton Near the 1200 Metres, when being crossed by MEANINGFUL DRAGON (L Hewitson), was steadied to avoid the heels of that runner. L Hewitson was advised to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground. When questioned, Z Purton stated that throughout the early and middle stages of the event his mount raced fiercely and refused to settle and as a result was checked away from the heels of MEANINGFUL DRAGON for some distance near the 1000 Metres. He said as a consequence AEROINVINCIBLE failed to respond strongly to his riding in the Home Straight. He further stated that he had recommended to connections that AEROINVINCIBLE may be better suited by being dropped back in distance for its next race start where it will be provided with the opportunity to settle with a more genuine pace. Trainer P C Ng stated that although the hood had been removed from the horse today, he believed its racing manners were due to it racing first up when being fresh. He said having regard to Jockey Purton’s comments, he would now look to drop AEROINVINCIBLE back in distance for its next race start. Sent for sampling post-race.

After the event, A Atzeni stated that whilst his mount was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event, it would derive benefit from today’s first up performance. 12 8 MEANINGFUL DRAGON (H453) L Hewitson After the event, L Hewitson reported that making the Home Turn his mount became unbalanced and then gave ground noticeably in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. As this was the second consecutive occasion that MEANINGFUL DRAGON had finished tailed out, the horse will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination which must include additional diagnostic assessments before being allowed to race again.

11 10 VANTASTIC CHOICE (G401) M F Poon (-2) After the event, M F Poon reported that on pulling up his mount coughed. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, VANTASTIC CHOICE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
8 11 JOLLY COMPANION (H454) K C Leung After the event, K C Leung stated that it was not his intention to lead, but when other runners did not show intent to hold the front, JOLLY COMPANION led without being pressured to do so.
1 12 TEAM HAPPY (J218) Y L Chung (-3) Raced very wide and without cover for the majority of the event. After the event, Y L Chung reported that his saddle slipped to the right during the event, placing him at some disadvantage. When questioned regarding the improved performance, Trainer P C Ng stated that the intention was to endeavour to follow the leader. He said, in his opinion, the improved performance of TEAM HAPPY was due to the horse being more mature this preparation and had also pleased him in its barrier trials in the lead up to today’s race. 10 1 AMAZING FUN (H442) Z Purton After the event, Z Purton stated that despite riding his mount along in the early stages, it was not able to take up a more forward position which resulted in AMAZING FUN being crossed by SONIC BOOM in the early stages. He said throughout the middle stages of the event AMAZING FUN was disadvantaged when positioned behind SONIC BOOM because of his mount not being able to improve into the event. He added however in the Home Straight AMAZING FUN did not respond to his riding. Trainer C H Yip agreed with Jockey Purton that AMAZING FUN was disadvantaged when unable to improve in the middle stages whilst behind SONIC BOOM. He added that AMAZING FUN had pleased him leading into today’s race and had displayed no signs of any lameness. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right hind leg. The performance of AMAZING FUN was considered to be disappointing as compared to its previous win. Before being allowed to race again, AMAZING FUN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

8 3 SHANGHAI STYLE (J093) K H Chan (-5) During its preliminary, another horse kicked out towards SHANGHAI STYLE and did not appear to make contact with it. Out of precaution, SHANGHAI STYLE was examined by the Veterinary Officer at the Start and passed suitable to race. After the event, K H Chan stated that the intention was to hold a more forward position, but his mount failed to show sufficient pace to do so. He added, in his opinion, SHANGHAI STYLE resented the kickback from the All Weather surface and he also felt that in the middle stages his mount may have been galloped on. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

After the event, C L Chau reported that the intention was to find cover, but in the early stages his mount raced keenly and as a result he crossed to lead in the early stages. He added in the Home Straight TOP PEAK failed to respond to his riding and raced in a disappointing manner. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. The performance of TOP PEAK was considered to be disappointing as compared to its previous race starts. Before being allowed to race again, TOP PEAK will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Trainer F C Lor stated that the horse had pleased him in a barrier trial on 3 September 2024 and the only explanation he could offer was that LUCKY IMPACT may not have run out a strong 1400 Metres. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. The performance of LUCKY IMPACT was considered to be disappointing as compared to its previous race start. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY IMPACT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. 4 9 CHATER GOLD (J004) H Bentley C L Chau (TOP PEAK) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 1100 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of HARMONY GALAXY, resulting in HARMONY GALAXY being taken in towards CHATER GOLD, causing CHATER GOLD to be unnecessarily crowded for room and to be checked. C L Chau was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Saturday, 28 September 2024 at Sha Tin. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his excellent race riding record. From the 450 Metres until the 250 Metres was held up for clear running.

In the Home Straight lay in, resulting in its rider A Badel changing his whip through to his right hand near the 250 Metres and had some difficulty as he did so. Passing the 200 Metres, A Badel dropped his whip. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event. After the event, A Badel reported that due to his mount being fractious in the barriers, approaching the first turn near the 800 Metres he was obliged to re-position his right foot in the stirrup. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

7 1 CARROLL STREET (D489) K Teetan Bumped shortly after the start. After the event, K Teetan stated that CARROLL STREET did not appreciate racing with a top weight of 135 lbs and as a result found it difficult to finish the race off strongly. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
4 2 FLYING HIGH (E204) L Hewitson When questioned, L Hewitson stated that his instructions were to ensure that he found cover on his mount as FLYING HIGH only has a short sprint when placed under pressure. He said after initially obtaining cover behind PHOENIX LIGHT, he was reluctant to remain behind that runner as he felt PHOENIX LIGHT is not a horse that would provide him with an opportunity to improve into the event. He added as a result he continued to shift out towards the stand rail to follow CARROLL STREET as he felt that runner would provide him with a better opportunity to improve into the event. He said when CARROLL STREET did not quicken as he had anticipated and shifted in slightly near the 400 Metres, he then improved to that runner’s outside whereby he was able to place FLYING HIGH under pressure approaching the 300 Metres at which point it commenced to finish the race off well.

13 1 SWEET ENCOUNTER (G426) H Bowman Apprentice P N Wong (MASSIVE ACTION) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1250 Metres she allowed her mount to shift in when not clear of SOLEIL FIGHTER, resulting in SOLEIL FIGHTER being taken in onto PRAY FOR MIR, causing PRAY FOR MIR to be taken in across the running of SWEET ENCOUNTER which was checked. The Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered her excellent race riding record. After considering submissions in relation to penalty and Apprentice Wong’s inexperience in riding in Hong Kong, she was issued with a severe reprimand. 14 8 MASSIVE ACTION (E445) P N Wong (-10) Near the 200 Metres struck the heels of SWEET ENCOUNTER and blundered when SWEET ENCOUNTER, which was laying in, was steadied away from FORTUNATE SON (B Avdulla) which shifted out slightly. B Avdulla was advised to exercise more care. In assessing the incident, the Stewards also established that MASSIVE ACTION was laying in which prevented Apprentice P N Wong from being able to shift out to avoid SWEET ENCOUNTER. Apprentice Wong pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference approaching the 1250 Metres (see SWEET ENCOUNTER). A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
11 9 PRAY FOR MIR (J245) M Chadwick Jumped only fairly. Approaching the 300 Metres raced in restricted room between LO PAN SPIRIT and GREENWICH which shifted in slightly.

After the running of Race 1, the track classification for the turf course was officially changed from "Good” to "Good to Firm”. This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective. As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 1 being run on a track rated "Good to Firm”.
