4 1 CERVIN (H253) K De Melo Near the 300 Metres became held up for clear running between GALLANT CROWN and SO AWESOME and shortly after attempted to take a run when there was insufficient room to do so, resulting in CERVIN making contact with SO AWESOME for some distance thereafter before being disappointed for clear running near the 150 Metres. CERVIN then obtained clear running to the inside of GALLANT CROWN when that runner shifted out after the 150 Metres. Sent for sampling post-race.
8 2 IVICTORIAM (J226) H Bowman A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
1 3 PEGASUS GENERAL (G189) K C Leung Sent for sampling post-race.
7 4 CASA LEGEND (G126) A Hamelin Near the 1500 Metres was eased to avoid SOLAR GOGO which shifted out slightly.
3 5 GALLANT CROWN (D359) E C W Wong (-7) Shifted out when under pressure over the final 150 Metres. Apprentice E C W Wong pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 100 Metres (see SOLAR GOGO).
11 6 GOLD TACK (H106) B Avdulla No report.
5 7 SOLAR GOGO (H390) C L Chau (-2) Near the 200 Metres raced in restricted room between SO AWESOME which was taken out by CERVIN and PEGASUS GENERAL (K C Leung) which shifted in. K C Leung was advised to exercise more care. Apprentice E C W Wong (GALLANT CROWN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 Metres he allowed his mount to shift out when insufficiently clear of SO AWESOME, resulting in SO AWESOME being taken out from its rightful running and also resulting in SOLAR GOGO having to be checked when crowded between SO AWESOME and PEGASUS GENERAL. Apprentice Wong was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Sunday, 19 January 2025 at Sha Tin. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his excellent race riding record.
10 8 INVINCIBLE MISSILE (C037) L Ferraris Slow to begin. After the event, L Ferraris reported that his mount did not travel well throughout the event and failed to run on in the Home Straight but he could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. <9/1/2025 Additional Veterinary Report> INVINCIBLE MISSILE, which performed disappointingly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. INVINCIBLE MISSILE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C Fownes this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, INVINCIBLE MISSILE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
6 9 SO AWESOME (D258) C Y Ho Between the 300 Metres and the 150 Metres was bumped on a number of occasions by CERVIN (K De Melo) when that runner attempted to obtain clear running to the outside of GALLANT CROWN. K De Melo was severely reprimanded and advised he must ensure that there is sufficient room when improving into runs. Lost its rightful running near the 100 Metres.
2 10 PODIUM (H173) M F Poon When questioned regarding his riding out over the concluding stages and the reason he lost balance to the inside, M F Poon stated that approaching the winning post he commenced to push his mount forward with his right arm in order to encourage PODIUM over the line. He said as he did so PODIUM changed stride passing the winning post which resulted in him losing balance when his weight shifted to the inside. Jockey Poon was advised that he must ensure, wherever possible, he does not ride his mounts in a manner that causes him to lose balance and compromise his own safety and the safety of his fellow riders. Sent for sampling post-race.
9 12 RED MAVERICK (J067) A Pouchin When being shifted across behind runners near the 1500 Metres was steadied to avoid PODIUM. A short distance later, RED MAVERICK then made contact with INVINCIBLE MISSILE when that runner held its position behind PODIUM. Over-raced in the early and middle stages and near the 1100 Metres got its head up when being steadied away from heels. Near the 500 Metres got its head up when being held up for clear running behind IVICTORIAM. After the event, A Pouchin reported that from a wide barrier he was given no specific instructions. He said when caught wide in the early stages he elected to shift RED MAVERICK across behind runners to avoid covering additional ground.
WV-A 11 TATTENHAM (H121) L Hewitson After being loaded into the barriers reared and got its front legs over the starting gates. Acting on veterinary advice that TATTENHAM had sustained a wound to the left front leg and was not suitable to race, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. The Stewards ruled that TATTENHAM will be required to attend barrier practice to the satisfaction of the Starter prior to performing satisfactorily in consecutive barrier trials in Hong Kong and being subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.

12 11 AFFIRM (H306) A Atzeni When questioned regarding his riding, A Atzeni stated that from a wide barrier his instructions were to take up a forward position. He said in the early stages he rode his mount along to comply with his instructions, however, AFFIRM did not show its usual pace and was unable to cross runners to his inside. He said in the Back Straight he was of the opinion that the riders of GOLDEN RISE and PRIME MORTAR were looking to obtain cover and for this reason he continued to ride AFFIRM forward in an attempt to cross runners to his inside. He added AFFIRM continued to not respond to his efforts to go forward and came under pressure at the 600 Metres before giving ground badly from that point. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. 3 5 GOOD LUCK WIN (J135) C L Chau (-2) Shifted out approaching the winning post and was bumped. When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages and the reason his mount did not hold the lead, C L Chau confirmed the instructions were to show intent in the early stages and ride his mount in a manner to lead the event. He said after making some use of GOOD LUCK WIN shortly after the start he observed SUPER BABY improve to his outside and when he was of the view he would not be able to hold that runner out, he commenced to allow SUPER BABY to cross his mount approaching the first turn. He said as he allowed SUPER BABY to cross, GOOD LUCK WIN got its head up when he eased and made the first turn awkwardly. He added making the Home Turn GOOD LUCK WIN hung out towards NINJA DERBY and as a result he was obliged to correct his mount to avoid that runner before being able to ride GOOD LUCK WIN out in the Home Straight. After considering his explanation, the Stewards advised Jockey Chau that he had made an error of judgement in the early stages in conceding the lead too soon when SUPER BABY improved to his outside and he should wherever possible, ensure that he rides his mounts in accordance with the instructions issued by connections.
7 6 FOREMOST TEDDY (J058) C Y Ho Approaching the 1500 Metres was steadied when crowded between GOOD LUCK WIN which shifted out slightly and APOLAR FIGHTER which shifted in and away from SUPER BABY. 4 8 APOLAR FIGHTER (J169) A Pouchin Approaching the winning post made contact with GOOD LUCK WIN which shifted out slightly.
12 9 NINJA DERBY (H339) Z Purton Jumped awkwardly, shifted in and was bumped. After the event, Z Purton reported that his instructions were to endeavour to obtain cover. He said when caught wide in the early stages he was obliged to continue forward to avoid racing wide which resulted in NINJA DERBY racing outside the lead. He said due to the effort that the horse made in the early stages to cross runners, it was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of NINJA DERBY was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts. Before being allowed to race again, NINJA DERBY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Sent for sampling post-race.
5 10 U S S CONSTITUTION (H357) B Thompson No report.
6 11 VIVA HUNTER (E369) M Chadwick From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. Between the 300 Metres and approaching the 100 Metres was held up for clear running.

12 2 BRAVE JOY (J307) C Y Ho When giving ground near the 250 Metres lay in and away from BEAUTY LIGHT and made contact with BULB EMPEROR, resulting in BRAVE JOY becoming unbalanced. After the event, C Y Ho stated that the intention was not to lead the event but from an inside barrier and with the pace of the race being run outside of standard time BRAVE JOY led without being pressured to do so. He added BRAVE JOY raced greenly throughout the event before giving ground in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

12 7 LA MOMENTO (J476) M Chadwick Raced wide and without cover until near the 700 Metres when ridden forward to cross MEGA BONUS. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
6 8 SPIRIT OF PEACE (K007) Z Purton When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, Z Purton stated that he was of the opinion that LAKESHORE HERO was under pressure and for this reason he endeavoured to shift that runner out to obtain clear running to the outside of CIRCUIT DUFFY. He said prior to commencing this move he was of the opinion that there was not clear running available between ONE FOR ALL and CIRCUIT DUFFY and this was his only option to obtain clear running when he made such decision. As a consequence SPIRIT OF PEACE made contact with LAKESHORE HERO on a number of occasions and was badly held up behind CIRCUIT DUFFY for some distance after the 200 Metres. The Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Purton were reasonable in the circumstances. Sent for sampling post-race.
5 9 LAKESHORE HERO (J288) B Avdulla After the 200 Metres was bumped heavily by SPIRIT OF PEACE (Z Purton) when that runner endeavoured to obtain clear running to the outside of CIRCUIT DUFFY. As a result, LAKESHORE HERO became unbalanced. Z Purton was reprimanded and advised he should have desisted from attempting to obtain the run sooner than he did when LAKESHORE HERO held its ground.
9 10 LUCKY PLANET (H235) A Pouchin In the early stages, when racing keenly, got its head up when being crossed by MEGA BONUS. Near the 300 Metres was steadied when disappointed for clear running between LA MOMENTO and MEGA BONUS. 3 11 KA YING POWER (H169) C L Chau (-2) From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
4 12 TALENTS SUPREMO (H133) K Teetan Bumped at the start. When questioned regarding his riding making the Home Turn and the reason he did not shift to the outside of HAPPY PARK to obtain clear running, K Teetan stated that from a wide barrier his instructions were to allow TALENTS SUPREMO to settle where comfortable and to take up a position behind midfield. He said he was also instructed to save the horse up for a run in the Home Straight over the final 250 Metres as TALENTS SUPREMO has a short sprint. He said making the Home Turn when following HAPPY PARK, TALENTS SUPREMO was travelling only fairly and for this reason he encouraged the horse to hold its position behind HAPPY PARK. He said as he did so TALENTS SUPREMO commenced to travel strongly and when HAPPY PARK shifted out slightly, this resulted in TALENTS SUPREMO improving to that runner’s inside and then being held up for clear running behind MEGA BONUS until approaching the 200 Metres. Trainer W K Mo confirmed the instructions issued and advised that TALENTS SUPREMO races best when ridden in this way. Mr Mo expressed satisfaction with the manner in which Jockey Teetan had ridden the horse on the Home Turn. After considering the evidence and the explanation provided by Jockey Teetan, the Stewards found that he had made an error of judgement on the Home Turn in not positioning his mount to the outside of HAPPY PARK which would have resulted in TALENTS SUPREMO obtaining clear running sooner than what it did on this occasion. However, the Stewards were satisfied, having regard to the instructions particularly, that it was not blameworthy in the circumstances.

4 1 NOBLE PURSUIT (H324) H Bowman <12/1/2025 8 January 2025 Happy Valley Racemeeting – Race 9 (336)> H Bowman was interviewed relative to the tactics he adopted in the early stages where he shifted to a position one-off the rail near the 1500 Metres to follow SUNSTRIDER. H Bowman stated that due to the pattern of racing during the meeting, he felt it was advantageous to endeavour to get his horse to the outside, particularly as NOBLE PURSUIT races best when in this position. He said for this reason he elected to shift out to follow SUNSTRIDER after the 1500 Metres as he felt such manoeuvre would allow SUNSTRIDER to shift to the rail and provide NOBLE PURSUIT with a trailing position behind DILBAGH. He said when SUNSTRIDER remained racing one-off, SIMPLE HEDGE was able to improve to that runner’s inside and as a result NOBLE PURSUIT settled further back in the field than what he had anticipated. He added along the Back Straight whilst the opportunity was available to shift in and follow SIMPLE HEDGE, he elected to shift out to attempt to position his mount to the outside but was prevented from doing so when SPEED DRAGON held its position to his outside. He said as a result near the 550 Metres he was forced to go back to the inside to start a forward move and follow SIMPLE HEDGE. H Bowman reinforced his views that NOBLE PURSUIT was disadvantaged by racing to the inside and also was not assisted by the track pattern on the night as it was forced to make a run on the inside.
1 2 SPEED DRAGON (H380) C Y Ho From the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages. C Y Ho pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference near the 150 Metres (see SUNSTRIDER). Sent for sampling post-race.
7 3 SAMARKAND (H070) C L Chau (-2) C L Chau will be warned in relation to using his whip in a manner where his whip arm was raised above shoulder height on several occasions over the concluding stages.
2 4 CALIFORNIATOTALITY (H418) B Avdulla Shifted in at the start and was bumped. Sent for sampling post-race.
5 5 SIMPLE HEDGE (H237) A Badel Jumped only fairly.
6 6 SUPER UNICORN (H481) K C Leung After the event, K C Leung reported that when the pace of the event eased in the middle stages his mount raced keenly and got its head up when being steadied away from SAMARKAND. He said as a result SUPER UNICORN was one-paced to the finish of the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Sent for sampling post-race.
9 7 COMET SPLENDIDO (G071) H Bentley No report.
3 8 QUANTUM PATCH (H166) M F Poon From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
8 9 SUNSTRIDER (J168) K Teetan Crowded shortly after the start by NOBLE PURSUIT which shifted out. C Y Ho (SPEED DRAGON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 150 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when not clear of SUNSTRIDER, resulting in SUNSTRIDER having to be checked to avoid SPEED DRAGON. C Y Ho was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 12 January 2025 and to expire on Thursday, 16 January 2025 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his good race riding record.
12 10 TOY SOLTERO (J268) Z Purton Trainer C W Chang confirmed the instructions were to lead tonight’s event. He said TOY SOLTERO had pleased the stable leading into the race but may not have appreciated leading and this was the only explanation he could offer for TOY SOLTERO weakening in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of TOY SOLTERO was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts. Before being allowed to race again, TOY SOLTERO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
10 11 DILBAGH (K055) L Hewitson Near the 700 Metres was steadied to avoid SUPER UNICORN. For some distance near the 250 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running.
11 12 SURE JOYFUL (G125) M Chadwick On jumping was crowded by CALIFORNIATOTALITY which shifted in. After the event, M Chadwick reported that his mount was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event and as a result was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
