After the event J Moreira stated that he was issued with no specific instruction other than to attempt to find cover. He said in the early stages he was unable to comply with his instructions which resulted in MATSU VICTOR racing wide and without cover for the majority of the event before giving ground in the Home Straight. Trainer K W Lui advised that the horse had pleased him leading into the race and attributed the disappointing performance to the horse experiencing a wide run during the event. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MATSU VICTOR was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts. Before being allowed to race again, MATSU VICTOR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

13 1 MR BRIGHTSIDE (K930) C Williams Bumped shortly after the start. After the event C Williams stated that his mount raced a little keenly during the race but was still disappointing in its failure to respond in the Home Straight and he could offer no excuse for the horse’s performance. 2 2 VOYAGE BUBBLE (E436) J McDonald Blundered on jumping. The Stewards deferred the declaration of weighed-in as they were of the view that an incident occurred over the concluding stages which cast doubt as to whether RED LION should be declared the winner. Subsequently J McDonald, the rider of VOYAGE BUBBLE, 2nd placegetter, lodged a protest/objection against RED LION being declared the winner alleging interference over the concluding stages. After considering the evidence the Stewards found that RED LION shifted out over the concluding stages, making slight contact with VOYAGE BUBBLE, however, they could not be comfortably satisfied that had the contact not have occurred that VOYAGE BUBBLE would have finished in advance of RED LION and therefore the protest/objection was overruled and weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. 6 10 RUBYLOT (H412) H Bowman Slow to begin. Near the 300 Metres was badly crowded for room. Prior to declaring weighed-in the Stewards gave consideration as to whether there were sufficient grounds for a protest/objection to be lodged on behalf of the connections of RUBYLOT following RUBYLOT being badly crowded near the 300 Metres when ENSUED shifted out. After considering the manner in which both horses finished the race off and the margin of a long head between the two horses at the finish, the Stewards declined to lodge a protest/objection.
PU 11 LIBERTY ISLAND (K917) Y Kawada B Avdulla (ENSUED) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 300 Metres he allowed his mount to shift out when not clear of LIBERTY ISLAND, resulting in LIBERTY ISLAND being badly crowded for room and taken out onto RUBYLOT, resulting in RUBYLOT also being crowded for room and GOLIATH becoming unbalanced when buffeted for room between RUBYLOT and PROGNOSIS. B Avdulla was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 14 May 2025 and to expire on Thursday, 22 May 2025 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Jockey Avdulla was fined $60,000. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his poor race riding record. Near the 250 Metres went amiss when it sustained an injury to its left front leg and was eased down from the event. When questioned Y Kawada stated that the horse travelled only fairly during the race, however, he had no concern with its action prior to the 250 Metres. He said, in his opinion, whilst LIBERTY ISLAND was crowded near the 300 Metres this had no bearing on the horse going amiss near the 250 Metres. Samples were taken from the horse.
