Racing Incident Report

BULL'S EYE was slowly away. In the middle stages, HORSE OF FAME, which was proving a little difficult to settle, was awkward on the heels of SWEETHEART. For a greater part of the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, KINDRED SPIRITS was awkward behind SWEETHEART and tight inside HORSE OF FAME. Apprentice S K Sit (MIGHTY DRAGON) explained today he had been instructed by the Trainer to go forward and ride the horse in 2nd, 3rd or 4th position. He said MIGHTY DRAGON was slow to jump, he then checked when HORSE OF FAME shifted out, then elected to steady and shift across behind other runners to a position at the rear but close to the rail. The explanations submitted by Apprentice S K Sit were accepted. D Whyte (NORTHERN GOLD BALL) explained he understood the horse was inclined to play up when being saddled, but worked to the Start nicely, was standing well, but just as the gates opened the horse shifted in, as a consequence came out awkwardly and bumped the inside of its gate, however, did not lose a lot of ground. He said NORTHERN GOLD BALL then travelled satisfactorily in the run even though it was three wide. He said on the Home Turn he was carried wider when runners on his inside shifted out, but then in the run to the finish NORTHERN GOLD BALL did not quicken as he expected it would. The explanations submitted by D Whyte were accepted. NORTHERN GOLD BALL was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
