Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, NATURAL WINNER bounded in the air, then knuckled. On jumping, PEAK POWER was checked when crowded between TRIUMPHANT FEELING and LEGITIMATE which was taken out by MY HEART. IMPRESSIONIST left the gates badly, shifted in and was awkward on the hindquarters of MAGIC HANDS which was taken out slightly by COMMANDER CHARLIE. About the 1600 Metres, COMMANDER CHARLIE became unbalanced when steadied between IRONIC COMMANDER and HIGH SPIRITS which was taken in slightly by DEPECHE MODE. No action was taken. After the 800 Metres, RAINBOW AND GOLD was unbalanced when awkward just inside the hindquarters of LEGITIMATE. The Stewards deferred the declaration of Weighed-In. They were of the view that an incident had occurred at the Start which cast doubt on whether MIGHTY DRAGON should be deemed a runner. The evidence confirmed that MIGHTY DRAGON which had drawn 14 left the gates satisfactorily, then shifted out abruptly and unseated J Egan. In all the circumstances, the Stewards had little alternative but to deem MIGHTY DRAGON a runner. Weighed-In was then semaphored in accordance with the Judge's numbers. Before MIGHTY DRAGON can race again, it must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and must start on the outside of the field. MAGIC HANDS was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
