Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, UPTOMEEYES bounded in the air. PERFECT VICTORY was slowly away and just after the start bumped the hindquarters of KRISTOFFERSON. About the 300 Metres, VICTORY DRUM was steadied when crowded between SOUND GALLOP which shifted out slightly and KRISTOFFERSON which had a tendency to lay in. In the run to the winning post, HAIL WINNER and DANCING SOUND came together on two occasions due to both runners shifting ground. W Woods (KRISTOFFERSON) said tonight from a difficult gate the horse was not able to show the early speed to clear other runners to take up a forward position, as a consequence got well back and was obliged to race wide throughout. He said before the race he had been instructed to ensure that the horse was given an uninterrupted run on the outside over the concluding stages. He also pointed out that tonight KRISTOFFERSON was having its third run without blinkers and this does seem to have encouraged the horse to relax, and was now not showing the pace to take up a more forward position as it had done previously. He went on to say after the race he did mention to the Trainer's Assistant that he rode the horse on the outside as instructed, but in hindsight it may be that KRISTOFFERSON would race better over the concluding stages when amongst other runners. A Marcus (GUSCOTT) explained he had been instructed not to use the whip on the horse if possible, at about the 1000 Metres he became aware that the horse was wanting to lay out, he changed his whip into his left hand, but then when put under full pressure after the 600 Metres, GUSCOTT hung out away from the hindquarters of HAIL WINNER despite his efforts to keep it in and as a consequence of GUSCOTT hanging, DANCING SOUND was able to improve on its inside. MULTIZEN was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon noted that MULTIZEN was lame in its off side hind leg. Before MULTIZEN can race again, it will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
