Racing Incident Report

Before arriving at the Start, TRUST ME kicked a rail. TRUST ME was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who after discussing the horse's condition with its rider decided the horse was suitable to race. TAURUS began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. At the 900 Metres, LOOK WHO'S ANGEL was steadied away from the heels of A-GAIN EASY which shifted in. Near the 700 Metres, A-GAIN EASY, which initially was to the outside of HOKKIEN ALL, steadied and then shifted to the inside of that horse. Shortly after this, HOKKIEN ALL shifted in slightly, resulting in A-GAIN EASY being checked. In the circumstances, no action was taken. LOOK WHO'S ANGEL, which was following, was checked in consequence. On straightening, CLASSIC JESTER stumbled after bumping TRUST ME. At the 400 Metres, HOKKIEN ALL shifted out to find clear running, this caused FAIRWAY FINDER to race wider. R Fradd (HOKKIEN ALL) pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 132(iii) in that he had failed to continue to ride the horse out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards. In the circumstances, it was considered the appropriate penalty was that R Fradd be fined $20,000. E Saint-Martin (LOOK WHO'S ANGEL) explained that after being inconvenienced early in the race his mount made the Home Turn awkwardly and because of this it became unbalanced, then took time to respond to his riding in the early stages of the Straight. He said when properly balanced he applied further pressure to LOOK WHO'S ANGEL and the horse then finished the race off nicely. In noting the explanation of E Saint-Martin, the Stewards advised him that his riding early in the Straight had caused some concern and he should ensure that he rides his mounts at all stages of the race in a manner which does not leave room for query. HOKKIEN ALL was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
