Racing Incident Report

Acting on veterinary advice, MAGNIFIER was sore in the off side front leg and unfit to run, the horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before racing again, MAGNIFIER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BUMPER STORM left the gates awkwardly, shifted in abruptly and bumped CHEERS HONG KONG. LUCKY SIX, which was restless, left the gates awkwardly. In the early stages, LUCKY SIX proved difficult to settle, threw its head about and was awkwardly placed behind CHEERS HONG KONG. About the 1200 Metres, MOMENTUM, which was pulling, threw its head about when racing close to the heels of MADE TO FIGURE, then about the 300 Metres was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running between CHEERS HONG KONG and BUMPER STORM. Rounding the turn, RED SUN had a tendency to lay out. Near the 400 Metres, GONLARGO was steadied when awkward just inside the hindquarters of MADE TO FIGURE. After this incident, GONLARGO was shifted out to find running, but then was awkward behind BILLION WIN which was giving ground, then shifted back in. D Whyte (BILLION WIN) said about 100 Metres after the start he had to steady to avoid CHARMING CITY as the horse shifted across to be racing outside MAN OF HONOUR. He said however this incident was of little significance and after that although in a good position, BILLION WIN did not travel as he expected and he knew at the 800 Metres that the horse would not figure in the finish. He said in the Straight BILLION WIN was very uncomfortable and not stretching out as it should and as a consequence he did not ride BILLION WIN to the finish as he normally would. He said the poor run of the horse in his opinion could be attributed entirely to its inability to handle today's track condition. W C Marwing (EPIC EXPRESS) said from a good gate he took up a forward position, however, EPIC EXPRESS was inclined to over-race and started to hang in shortly after the start. He said in the middle stages although travelling well, EPIC EXPRESS hung in badly away from CHARMING CITY and several times made contact with the running rail. He said in the Straight the horse continued to hang in badly onto the rail and in the run to the winning post weakened right out of the race. He went on to say EPIC EXPRESS in his opinion seemed to handle the track condition, its poor run was probably because of the horse proving difficult to settle and hanging in as badly as it did. In all the circumstances, the performance of EPIC EXPRESS was considered unacceptable. Before the horse can race again, it will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. BILLION WIN and EPIC EXPRESS were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
