Racing Incident Report

After being boxed, ROUND THE WORLD became fractious and broke through. The horse was quickly pulled up, returned to the Start and examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. MANOR STAR left the gates badly and shifted in. OPERATION HUMOUR jumped awkwardly with its head up and was further inconvenienced by GRAND FIGHTER which on leaving the gates shifted in abruptly. NEW PLANET was slowly away. When the gates opened, MEDIC HERO bounded in the air. In the middle stages, BOXING DAY became unbalanced when awkwardly placed on the heels of SINCERE AND FAITH. When asked, S Dye (CITY PATROL) said on Tuesday when he had been engaged for the ride by Mr T P Wong, Trainer, he was told the intention was to ride the horse quieter than usual and endeavour to ensure it found the line. S Dye said during the week he had watched videos of the horse's recent runs and further considered that there may not have been a lot of pace in today's race, therefore before the race he suggested to Mr Wong and the connections it may be preferable to go forward into the lead, then try and hold the horse up in that position. He said he was aware CITY PATROL is a difficult horse in the gates, was one of the last to be loaded, but when ROUND THE WORLD broke through the barriers, the start was delayed and this obviously upset CITY PATROL which itself bounded forward and sprung its gates. He said CITY PATROL did not jump as well as hoped, got back in the race and he made an immediate decision to ride it quietly on the fence about midfield. He said CITY PATROL was disappointing over the concluding stages and did not find the line as had been hoped. He did conclude by saying in different circumstances, that is if ROUND THE WORLD had not broken through and CITY PATROL had left cleanly, he probably would have ridden the horse in front. The explanations submitted by S Dye were on this occasion accepted. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said CITY PATROL had sustained a long laceration under its jaw. ROUND THE WORLD and CITY PATROL were sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
