Racing Incident Report

ONE STEP AHEAD left the gates very awkwardly with its head up, was then checked when crowded between COLOURFUL ERA and FASTEST STAR which was taken out by STRONGHEART. The occurrence in the opinion of the Stewards was accidental. On jumping, WIND PURSUER shifted out and bumped MUGHAL PALACE which in turn shifted ground and made contact with INDIAN ROAD. SEREVI, which was difficult in the parade, jumped very awkwardly with its head up and shifted out. Before being allowed to race again, SEREVI will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. HIGH SKY was slowly away. The Stewards deferred the declaration of Weighed-In as Mr A T Millard, Trainer of EL VIENTO, and R Fradd, rider, sought permission to view the official video films. They were of the view that an incident had occurred in the Straight which may have cast doubt on whether EL VIENTO should be declared 4th placegetter. After viewing the available video films however they decided on this occasion circumstances were not such that it would be appropriate for them to formally lodge an objection. Accordingly Weighed-In was declared, confirming the placings as semaphored by the Judge. It was subsequently established that after the 200 Metres EL VIENTO was checked when crowded between ZIETENGO BOY which shifted in slightly and ONE STEP AHEAD (Apprentice M W Leung) which shifted out whilst being ridden along. In view of the circumstances involved, it was decided not to take any direct action, but Apprentice M W Leung was severely reprimanded and told in a situation such as this he must stop riding and straighten sooner than he did today. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that EL VIENTO was lame in its off side front leg. Before being allowed to race again, EL VIENTO will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LUCKY STALLION was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
