Racing Incident Report

NIGHT STAR missed the start slightly. For some distance in the middle stages, SPLENDID PATROL raced ungenerously and tight inside VICTORY MARBLE. In the Straight, NIGHT STAR hung in and proved difficult to ride out. When questioned, E Legrix (EXULTATION) said he had not been riding the horse of recent times. He had been told by the Trainer before the race that EXULTATION in recent times had been ridden back from the lead, but had not been settling and over the concluding stages had been disappointing. He was directed by the Trainer tonight from an outside gate to ride EXULTATION along in the early stages and ensure he got to the lead. He said when he did get to the front EXULTATION travelled comfortably. The explanations submitted by E Legrix were accepted. When questioned, S Dye (ALL THRILLS TOO) said the intention had been to ride the horse somewhere in about 5th or 6th position if possible. He said ALL THRILLS TOO left the gates satisfactorily, but was immediately uncomfortable in the ground. He said running towards the first turn there was an opportunity for him to have improved along the rail to be racing inside GRANDIOSO and behind SPLENDID PATROL. He said however as SPLENDID PATROL appeared to be racing tight inside VICTORY MARBLE he shifted away from this run and took up a position behind GRANDIOSO. He went on to say however at no stage of the race was ALL THRILLS TOO comfortable in tonight's track conditions and bearing in mind all the circumstances he considered the run of ALL THRILLS TOO to have been quite satisfactory. ALL THRILLS TOO was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing. An inquiry into the reason for D Harrison being dislodged from MY CHIEF at about the 1000 Metres was adjourned to a date to be fixed. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that MY CHIEF had sustained a laceration to its off side front coronet band.
